He did get hurt against NE in '95, he was on the rosetr in '96. he was the 3rd QB when O'Donnell was healthy(6 games) but Reich's backup until the final 3 games which he started.
He had the Eagles game won in '96 in what was looking to be a huge upset, they were up 20-7 with under 10:00 left in the fourth quarter...the defense let him down by commiting a fourth down penalty giving the Eagles life and then letting Ricky Waters run through them........it was after that game Kotite announced that he wasn't fired or resigning - he just wouldn't be back......
There were about 20,000-30,000 fans tops at that game and at least half drove up from the Philly area. It was looking really good in the 4th but typical of the Jets pre-Parcells we found a way to blow it. The next week was the emotional goodbye to Kotite after he announced he wasn't coming back:smile: and typically we found a way to blow that game after having a double digit lead.
The Eagle game was the one when Dilfer (I think it was him) said "We'd have to be idiots to lose this game", which incensed Hugh Douglas. The day after the game the cover of the Daily News was a big picture of Kotite's face with the headline "IDIOT PROOF".
Yes, Detmer. I forget which one though, Ty or Koy or whoever, but Hugh Douglas threatened to hurt him.
Douglas had a good game. He kept his word that he wouldn't hurt Detmer purposely, but he did get at least a couple of sacks. The last sack was a pretty hard shot if I remember correctly and it caused a fumble that the Jets recovered, immediately following Aaron Glenn's TD on an INT. The Jets could only get a FG out of that fumble, however, and the rest was history....
I was looking at the NFL Network briefly last night and if you missed the replay of this classic Jets debacle, it will be shown again on this coming Saturday night starting at 8pm.
this wasnt a debacle, do you know what the word debacle means? the fake spike game, the eagles game in 94, the oilers collaspe against the bills in the playoffs, those were debacles
Stupid Time Warner Cable! I want NFL Network! Anyway, I remember that game real well. The day afterwards was the first day of my senior year in H.S, and I remember telling one of my classmates "Well, there goes all the hype we generated offseason. Same old Jets." What happened in subsequent weeks unfolded into one of the best Jets seasons I can remember. Ahhh, memories.
You mean Garrison Hearst is going to come out of retirement and beat us again? Coming from a fan of a team that got a beatdown by a Panthers team with a 45-year-old QB at the helm, that's pretty funny....
