    Ok... enough of jokes.

    ----------------------------------------------------

If you guys are going to put Pennington on a pedestal for not being successful during a possible Playoff run (and SB) at least put Kellen Clemens in the same shoe too. He would be miserable as I can see it. Don't use double standard. I'm not trying to defend Pennington - I'm knocking on Clemens instead. I believe he'd make a good career clipboard holder.

^ I don't exactly see anyone praising Clemens. He has a lot to prove.

The thing is, Chad might have hit the endzone and Clemons only made it to the 2.

But there is one major factor we didn't hear. How long did Chads pass hang in the air? This makes all the difference when we are talking about arm strength.

exactly. and we're asking for him to get a chance to prove himself.

Pennington has had his chance, and we all know what will happen when we face the Steelers or some D that completely shuts down the run and forces him to pass; we don't know what Clemens is capable of doing yet in that scenario.

He'll never have the zip on his passes that KC does... but evidently in the offseason he's been working on that. He's using a lot more body now in his passes... of course by his own admission, in a game situation your body tends to revert back to what it knows, so it'll be tough to maintain that new passing style.

Although I would prefer to see Clemens win the starting job, it's innate in Jets fans to prefer the unknown versus what we know we have (unless what we have is above average to elite i.e. Kerry Rhodes). It was a long time before people truly gave up on Chad. That is true for me. I just want to see if Clemens can put it together on the field when he is in a decent situation. If not, we need to look elsewhere for answers. Unless of course Ainge or Ratliff end up being something. And that is always going to be a longshot.

If the Jets had a decent young QB, these posts would not be needed and Pennington would be entrenched as the #2.

Unfortunately, it seems like the young QB that the Jets have does not have the faith of the coaching staff for understandable reasons. A big arm is not enough to win in the NFL. I wanted the Jets to badly draft Brohm, but that didn't happen.

If Clemens was so good, he would have blown Chad out of the water, but somehow Chad is laying the whipping on Clemens. This is his third training camp so he's hardly a novice anymore.

Of course, we'll still hear excuses about Clemens. I think he stinks and has about as much likelihood to be a good NFL QB as Kyle Boller, but I digress.

Would you like the hot poker in the eye or a sharp stick to the balls, your choice?

I rather take none of the above but when it comes to the jets QB I don't think we have much choice at this point.

Screw it all, Install the wishbone and make Brad Smith QB while there is still time.

This is exactly the way I feel too. We have weak-armed Pennington, whose constant stream of 5-7 yard "out" pattern passes will hurt our running game and offense in general.

On the other hand, we have a strong-armed QB who makes poor decisions during 7-on-7 drills (which are geared towards giving the offense a major advantage).

I would give anything to have Chad's mental abilities in Kellen's body. Until then, we are gonna have to suffer through a mediocre season, then draft/sign a QB for next year. It's a shame, because it seems like such a waste of a potentially nasty defense.

You make no sense man, can't you see that if after 40+ practices, 4 live games and countless hours in the classroom and Clemens in his third year does not come out on top in the QB race HE HAS NO POTENTIAL RETARD and CHAD IS THE BETTER QB. No matter what limitations you point out about Chad, Clemens are worse which is why he is losing and may lose the QB competition. If you cant see this you are blind.

Lossing based on what? Throwing INT's in meaningless TC drills?

Winstonbiggs, I keep seeing a lot of judging here based on very little action. The QBs need to make their mistakes in TC and work through them. If Kellen were making the same mistake every time he threw an INT, over and over, he would hear about it and so would we. The fact is, each one of these is a little different.

Personally, I'm glad he's finding awful flaws when they don't have any consequence (except on this "message board") yet.

I don't expect Chad to make the same degree or number of mistakes that Kellen does -- they are in different places in their careers, just for one thing. It seems to me that Chad's dealing with pressure situations successfully requires him to be in pretty decent physical shape. He can tough out injuries like a good soldier but it doesn't always work for a W.

Ya'll can all keep up with the hand wringing if you want to.

I'm looking forward to these pre-season games when folks can hit and others can score touchdowns for a change.

It's a long time before a decision on either one of these guys can be made, I think.

For those guys who want to get shed of Kellen already, just take a look at the first four years of Phil Simms and see how much "better" he looked. Phil Simms for a long time was drawn, quartered, and pissed on by the NYG fans as much if not more so than Chad or Kellen is by us.

When it all clicks for a QB is not the same for everybody. The best QBs are the ones that were allowed to find themselves in their own time, not in the time of those watching and shouting from the "Peanut Gallery."
