He will get third string snaps in pre-season over Smith, and Ainge (still hurt/development). He might out shine Chad, and if Chad or Kellen goes down he will be in the mix.
Well, I don't know who Brett Ratliffe is, but I do know Brett Ratliff. I think he could be the 3rd string QB this year over Ainge, and I'd have no problem with that. I like this kid and its the one QB I do root for, that way when Chad and KC can't get it done - I get to complain because my guy isn't starting
Yeah let's just get rid of the guy who has proven himself thus far that he's worthy of #3 consideration. He's got more positive spin thus far over Clemens and Penningshit combined. Angie has shown nothing thus far so I wonder who you're placing in the #3 spot- Brad Smith?
I hope not. Ratliff will be a lock for the PS, if not on the 53. He's a very good QB without all of the draft pick investment/hype.
Everything coming out of Camps indicating that this guy is the best QB there at the minute, not sayin he is the best but he is performing better than Clemens AKA the turn over machine and Pennington AKA noodle arm. When you don't have a set starter on your roster the QB position should be opened to everyone, and i hope the kid keeps showing his talent.
Interesting stuff OP. He's been getting rave reviews out of TC. Could he end up being our David Garrard? I hope so. We need someone to step it up!
A little news on this guy. http://utah.scout.com/a.z?s=365&p=8&c=1&nid=2706606 Offering size and the arm strength to play at the next level, Ratliff must significantly improve his fundamentals to have any chance of being anything other than a practice squad player. Pos: Nice-sized pocket passer with marginal skill for the next level. Patient, buys time for receivers and finds the open pass-catcher on the field. Sells the ball fakes, throws with an over-the-top delivery and puts zip on the short throws, getting the ball through the tight spots. Neg: Takes most of his snaps out of the shotgun and is slow dropping into the pocket when lined up behind center. Does not have a quick release. Long passes hang in the air. Indecisive when pressured and makes questionable decisions. http://www.nfldraftscout.com/ratings/profile.php?pyid=61501 12/23/06 - All-American Eric Weddle casts a long shadow at Utah, leaving other senior prospects with NFL potential receiving little media attention. With a strong arm and good mobility, quarterback Brett Ratliff has intriguing potential of his own. Like Aaron Rodgers of the Green Bay Packers, Ratliff was hugely successful at Butte Junior College, before he signed with Utah two years ago. It took 11 games for Ratliff to earn a start for Utah in 2005, but the 6-3, 225 pound quarterback took full advantage in those final two games, throwing for 621 yards and 8 touchdowns versus only 1 interception in upsetting rival BYU and Georgia Tech in the Emerald Bowl. A nightmare performance against Boise State this season (8 of 27 for 51 yards, 0 TDs, 4 INTs) belied an otherwise strong senior campaign (2,796 yards passing yards, 23/9 TD to INT ratio). Against Tulsa in the Armed Forces Bowl, Ratliff flashed the potential that has scouts quietly intrigued. Passing accurately to all levels of the field, Ratliff showed both zip and touch when needed. He also ran for 31 yards on 9 attempts; though more impressively using this same mobility to buy more time in the pocket. http://deseretnews.com/dn/view/0,1249,650220454,00.html Ratliff pleads guilty to misdemeanor, infraction By Linda Thomson and Pat Reavy Deseret Morning News Published: Friday, Jan. 5, 2007 12:07 a.m. MST University of Utah quarterback Brett Ratliff pleaded guilty Thursday to charges of public intoxication and disorderly conduct in Salt Lake City Municipal Justice Court......
You relax. The guy is the only bright spot in the passing game thus far. We're not supposed to be happy/encouraged by the players' progress as the weeks go on? Should we just discount all of the accolades laid upon L. Wash. since camp opened? Thou shalt think before thou speaks...
your right, Ratliff is the new starter at QB. All I need is a few training camp run throughs against the 3rd stringers and I am convinced.
Hey Captain Obvious, where did I ever say that the guy would/should be starting? My comments were nothing more than an observation that he's had a good camp, and from everything we've read, the best out of the top 3 qb's. You ignorantly said that he wouldn't make it past camp, and I say that you're talking out of your ass. What are you basing the assertion on? If you're going to put words in my mouth, at least take the time to be somewhat accurate.
Who's talking about Clemens?? You really can't admire that Ratliff is making his way from the practice squad to the #3 QB spot and this team has a solid #3 QB rather than brad smith. You really look like an arrogant little baby right now.
There is always guys who come through training camp that the fans fall in love with, but seriously it's been a week and you guys already have him on the roster? And why you putting up a stink about the #3 QB when we don't even have a #1?
