There is no reason why the Jets cannot do some contrarian stuff. I wish NFL teams would do these kind of things on a semi-regular basis.

I wouldn't be opposed to it if it helped us win. I would actually like to see them try different things if it gives them an edge.

It is SO incredibly ridiculous to say that Pennington is clearly ahead because he has not thrown a pick and Clemens has five. By ALL accounts, Chad is throwing almost EXCLUSIVELY underneath. The only passes downfield are seam routes which are actually short passes as well. If Clemens is pushing the ball down the field he is obviously going to have more pics it comes with the territory. It ias amazing how Pennington continuosuly gets lauded because he completes 22 of 27 2 yard dump offs.

Probably no earlier than after the 3rd preseason game. A couple of years ago it was obvious Chad should start after like 3 practices, and Mangini still waited awhile.

This year it doesn't seem like anyone's doing anything to run away with it so it will probably be awhile.

It is still early but it is crystal clear and not even debatable that Chad is winning so far. He has 0 picks after 5 practices compared to Clemens with 4 picks. Don't even try to analyze a "rationale" for Clemens' picks because there is no excuse for a turnover, period....and this is Mangini's mantra. It's like they say man, execuses are like aholes, everyone's got one and they all stink....Chad is #1 right now.

What's crystal clear is that Chad has shown zero ability to inspire confidence as the starter and Clemens has been worse.

After so few practices it's not really necessary or fitting to prognosticate the future of the QB position. It's only training camp, and I know that it is the first football action and I'm excited to read about how guys are doing as well, but their performances aren't really indicitive of how they will play 2 weeks or 6 weeks from now.

That said, I feel okay with Clemens ironing out some kinks now and throwing downfield, at least he is going through learning experiences. Chad is sticking to his comfort zone and his m.o. of being Safety Sally. However, every time he completes a pass a writer will write the yardage for his completions and he is completing some mid-range ones, but still no deep-outs, which is a must have in the NFL. Deep outs are a crucial card for offenses to hold for those 3rd & 8-12 situations
