He is going to make such a difference this year. http://www.newyorkjets.com/news/articles/show/2288-nose-is-a-dirty-job-and-jenkins-loves-it
This is something this team sorely needed, Someone who can finally demand a double team and let our LB's do their job.
You also have to take into account how much Mangold is going to improve by facing a guy of Jenkins caliber every day in practice.
Kris Jenkins is not human. And I can't wait to see him when the season starts. I got a picture with him without pads on.. and he's still a huge wrecking ball.
I remember I didn't even like the idea of Jenkins (or Faneca)...then they actually happened...then I realized shit ain't Madden...then these guys keep kicking ass and saying the right things...I can't wait to see what they do this season.
If Harris could do what he did with D-Rob in front of him, imagine what he'll be able to do with Jenkins in front of him?? hmy:
Absolutely, this is what we have been severly lacking since turning to the 3-4. It makes the line better and it sure as hell makes the secondary better, the guy is a absolute beast.:jets:
Great read! Man this defense is going to be good this season, people are sleeping on the Jets defense. I cant wait until Sept. 7th!
Harris played like a pro-bowler last season. If Jenkins learns the position well his physical dominance will bring the entire defense, not just Harris, to another level.
I agree with you....hell, if Harris would've played a full season last year, i believe he would've edged Patrick Willis for the DROY award. But this season....i think Harris gets the nod....if he does a repeat performance.
With Revis, Rhodes, Harris, Jenkins, Pace, AND Gholston, it looks like we have a really solid defense. I can't wait to see what Lowery can do. I hope he can be our answer at the #2 CB spot. On paper, this defense looks sick. Even with a mediocre offense, I think we can win a lot of close games.
The same thing can be said of the ends and OLBs, with one less O-lineman to account for, another man will be freed up, more pressure is placed on the QB, plays are hurried, and guys like Rhodes and Revis capitalize and intercept or defend passes. NT is the cornerstone of our base defense and this guy is a big f***ing athletic, angry cornerstone who has a chip on his shoulder after losing a Super Bowl ring to the Cheatriots.
Assuming Gholston and Pace don't have the football intelligence of a turd (that would qualify as less than Thomas/Hobson) we will have effectively gotten bigger and stronger all over the field. I know this is a paper defense at this point but I can't see how this defense could possibly not be good at least this season.
http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...ge-difference-in-middle-for-the-new-york-jets Kris Jenkins is the biggest acquisition the Jets made in an offseason full of activity. He is generously listed at 335 pounds in various media outlets, but he came into camp at 359, and even that was low, by Jenkins's standards. More importantly, he is the key to everything the Jets want to be this year. They want to be a more physically-imposing defense. After all, the 3-4 is driven by size. With only three down linemen, it is imperative that they be big enough to occupy as many offensive linemen as possible. Linebackers also must be big because with one less lineman in front of them, they will face one-on-one situations with 300-pound linemen. No. 3-4 position demands size more than nose tackle. In the center of the defense, they must force double-teams from guards and centers who are not big enough to block them. Jenkins has never played the 3-4, but his size (6'4", 359lbs.) and attitude make him a near-perfect fit. “A 3-4 nose has a different type of patience than a 4-3 tackle," he said. "In a 4-3, you can just take off and go upfield. In a 3-4, you have to be a little bit more patient,” he said. “But one of the things that I’ve kind of made a name for myself on is not moving, so I think that’s going to stay pretty consistent in a 3-4 as well." “You have to make it easier for everyone else to do their job. That means holding up blockers or whatever you have to do to make it easier for those linebackers and those defensive backs, and that’s what I take pride in doing.” "I never did the pretty position. I've always been a grunt. I take pride in being a grunt."
