Titans | Team definitely impressed with Leinart Tue, 4 Apr 2006 06:32:07 -0700 Jim Wyatt, of the Tennessean, reports the Tennessee Titans walked away from two days of visiting with USC QB Matt Leinart "definitely impressed" by the quarterback. They worked him out Monday, April 3, and then had dinner with him and his family Monday evening. "Matt's very bright, which we expected,'' general manager Floyd Reese said. "I think he has a real passion for the game, which is very, very important. And it seems like he has his priorities pretty well squared away, and that is very important, too. On top of that he's a very talented quarterback. I'd say we were definitely impressed.'' They spent three hours watching film and going over plays with him on the chalkboard in a meeting room on the USC campus. Then they headed to the same practice field where Leinart showed his arm strength and mobility to NFL scouts at his Pro Day workout Sunday, April 2. As for the practice field, all indications were that Leinart threw better Monday than he did on Sunday. The Titans didn't ask Leinart to run the 40-yard dash. Reese said the Titans plan to have Leinart visit Tennessee soon as well.
There's a lot of poker being played by the Saints, Titans and Jets. Nobody knows what player these teams like best. The Saints are on the clock and it's their move....
I watched his workout and he looked good and crisp. If he were to be available to us I'd take him and put him in the pot for the starting spot , only thing is he better get used to pain. Whats with Eddie Izzard avatart?
Norm Chow is the Titans OC, so I have to believe that Leinhart is the move, but the Titans are doing a good job disguising their intentions. I live in TN, and today the big news is McNair being locked out of practice. (read TENN are going QB) They are playing hardball with him to reduce his 8 or 9 mil for this year. Neil O'Donnell (local broadcaster here) said Parcells did the same thing to him then cut him. McNair and agent are said to be pissed.
Unfortunately Lienart is probably going to the Titans, which means we will probably be looking at our defense. I just hope we dont draft Vince Young, i really doubt he will have much success. Norm Chow who was his former OC and would be the new one for him will definitely not pass on Lienart. Lienart is without a doubt the best quarterback in the draft.
i hope you guys save threads like this cause in 3 years when leinart is putting up #s like carson palmer is.. i just will like to point out all the experts who said he was going to be a bust.
Leinart wont be putting up numbers like Palmer as he has nothinglike the arm Palmer has. Ever since he opted to go back to college to party for another year I have had real doubts about his desire to play in the NFL. Almost any good quality college QB could have done well at USC with the talent around them. All the Titians stuff reads like a smokescreen.
Lienart would have definitely been the No. 1 pick last year. He decided to stay didn't improve and has made it clear one of the reasons he wants to come to NY is to follow in Namath's foot steps both on and off the field. There are a lot of conflicting reports about how good he looked at UCLA. Rumor is he was floating balls on most of his midrange passes. I think this guy has a lot to show in his personal workouts. I can easily see Cutler and Young going ahead of him. He may have cost himself several million dollars for another year of partying at USC.
I'm concerned about Leinart wanting to follow in Namath's footsteps "on and off" the field. Firstly, Joe Namath earned the right on the field to f*ck around off the field... and do it he did with relish. But he deserved to. Leinart's had a good college career but shouldn't at all be comparing himself to Joe Namath at this point. I hate it when guys think they're the next Joe Willie or Joe Montana or whomever... it's usually a sign they're destined to fall flat on their face. I could be wrong and I could be old-fashioned about this, but I have a feeling that statement doesn't sit well with either Tanny or (particularly) Mangini. EM has made it clear he wants serious, dedicated, hard-working players with character and integrity who put the team first and themselves second. He probably heard that comment and said to himself, "WTF?" For Leinart to come out and make that ridiculous statement is a stupid move on his part and does nothing for his draft status or pocketbook.
Leinart will look great in a Titans jersey laying on his back with Super Mario in a Jets Jersey laying on top of him laughing in his face mask.
