its hard to explain in words watching that at bat, i had no confidence in show and castro should be hitting here ugh
It makes sense because the hitter has as much to do with it as the pitcher. The guy is a major league pitcher - he should be able to get a guy out who is absolutely wretched against lefthanded pitching. Blaming the manager is ridiculous.
The stance you're taking is ridiculous. Valentin is an awful hitter period. Yes he's "better" as a lefty but he still stinks. So instead of having a guy in there that's pretty good at getting lefties out you bring in a lefty that's incapable of getting righties out. What part of that makes sense to you?
To say he is incapable of getting a lefty out is of course a ridiculous overstatement. The batter is a wretched hitter against lefties (batting more than 100 points less than against righties), and all Schoeneweis had to do was get one more strike when he had him with a 1-2 count. He threw a lousy pitch that would have been hit hard if the batter was a lefty or a righty. He didn't do his job. To act like it is such a slam dunk obvious move to bring in Sanchez is IMO absurd. Sometimes it's not that complicated - sometimes you just have to do your job.
The entire inning was mismanaged. If you're that petrified of letting Heilman pitch to a lefty(which looking at the splits this year might not be unjustified) then have Show ready to go after he gives up the double to Encarnacion. You don't IBB the go ahead run and then bring in Show to face a righty. About doing his job, it's been proven over and over the past 2 years that the only job he's capable of doing is retiring LHB in critical spots.
