with nothing really to talk about, i figured i'd pose this question: Do you see any shocking cuts during training camp? which veteran player, if any, do you think is most vulnurable to getting the axe?
This may not answer your question, but I suspect in training camp and all season really we will see less PATIENCE with any underachievers. With all the $$$$$ the jets forked out in the offseason, I suspect that Thomas Jones, Chad, B.Thomas, Barrett, etc. will be cut/benched more quickly than in the past if they have a few poor outings. My opinion only.
Evojoe67... great thread you've started. Seriously, before any of us go to TC and report back, it would be great to see what kind of expectations everyone has (per individual) and then be able to compare those expectations to what is happening at the time in TC.
Good post. I expect this also. Time to move on and cultivate the new arrivals. Either get results from the old crew or cut them to make room for better talent, one of the two.
Kellen Clemens will win the starting QB job. Justin Miller will win the #2 CB job. Musa Smith will beat out Jesse Chatman who will be cut. Chris Baker the touchdown maker will be cut not traded. Abram Elam will start opposite Kerry Rhodes. Shaun Ellis will be return to pro bowl form with Jenkins next to him.
Yeah, I agree. I expect some awesome performance from Jones this year, given what he now has to work with.
Jenkins brings TONS of confidence and improvement to everyone around him, LBs included... even the DBs benefit.
I"m gonna say Danny Woodhead gets cut. Which is too bad...because i think he brings enough to the table to warrant a roster spot....but I think he muffs a couple punts during Preseason, and Mangini gives him the boot. it's not my preference...just a random prediction.
Sad but true. With all the RB's the jets have in camp the only way Woodhead makes the roster is to be an outstanding punt returner. I expect them to try to put him on The PS
as crazy as this may sound, i think Elam is going to surprise, this year.i just got a feeling about him. i thought i saw some flashes in this kid. i think he's going to be a pleasent surprise this season.
I wouldn't be surprised at all. After he got over his flurry of nervous, bonehead plays when he first started I thought he played pretty well. I think Mangini thought so to, because after the early bad plays, I thought "That's the last we'll see of Elam", but Mangini stuck with him. That's makes me think that he likes the kid to.
Danny Woodhead is named starting RB Brad Smith beats out Pennington and Clemens and we run the option. Adrien Clarke is resigned for depth and becomes our starting LG Darrelle Revis is moved to fill the void at ILB next to Harris These would be suprises.
the post said IF he underachieves in 2008 he may see the bench. With all those first round picks on the O-line Jones can't complain about the awful O-line if his production doesn't measure up. For whatever it is worth I think he had only 2-3 runs over 20 yards so I CAN see room for improvement.
Chansi Stuckey becomes WR#3. Kris Jenkins anchors the D and it performs top-12. Justin Miller becomes above average CB#2. Revis and Harris continue development and put up Pro-Bowl #'s (but are snubbed). By week 10 Gholston, Thomas, and Pace are all on the field at the same time for 50% of the snaps with Pace moving inside. Thomas Jones, 1400yds, 5TDs, 35 receptions Leon, 600yds, 6TDs, 35 receptions Chatman, 300yds, 6TDs Clemens is given the starting job (doesn't win it) but doesn't impress
Already mentioned above, but my money is on Chansi Stuckey. I really think he will have an awesome training camp and pre-season; I just hope he can stay healthy this time.
If Shaun Ellis has anything near a pro bowl season i would be happier than a pig in sheet... One surprise I am pulling for is that Clemens dominates the QB competition early and he gets the nod. Also I can see Musa Smith beating out Chatman for the fina RB spot, as someone else had mentioned.
