So, we've got the thread of who everyone's bet for break-out player this season will be. Who is your pick for the player that will fall flat on his face? On offense, my pick is Brad Smith. I'm all for keeping him around for his special teams play but he stinks as a WR and, when he lines up behind center, nothing good ever happens. I know he's young and I know he's adjusting but I don't see him putting it together. On defense, my pick is Justin Miller. I once had very high hopes for this guy. He's extremely fast and could be a great corner if he could just learn to cover. Problem is, he wasn't showing signs of learning and I don't see it happening this year. That being said, I would love to be proven wrong. So who are your picks?
I'll agree on the latter. Woody has to slide inside to RG and kick Moore to the bench. Now I don't know who would play RT, Olivea? But I see Woody failing at RT.
On D will be Calvin Pace (the papers will say that Parcells faked bidding so that the Jets would overpay). On O will be Brad Smith, they just don't seem to know when to use those trick plays.
D - Gholston...I'm not saying that he will be an overall bust, but I do think he will fall well short of the expectations on this board. I think It'll be in his 2nd or 3rd year that he'll really be dominant. O - Keller...see above. I would say Woody, but I think he'll be serviceable, which is what we brought him in for.
On offense - D'Brickashaw Ferguson. He's sucked ever since he was drafted. On defense - Shaun Ellis. The end of the road has come for him.
Nobody will bust. In fact, the entire team will make the probowl, even the second stringers. Now, if you'll excuse me, I need another shot of Jameson.
I don't see how you can call any player a bust in his rookie year unless you expect them to do as well as Revis and Harris.
I think a lot of us on this board have high copes that Gholston and Keller will have big rookie years so I think this is fair.
I agree...I have realistic expectations for them. But, considering the predictions I've seen, especially for Gholston, he is going to fall short. When I weighed expectations vs. performance, that's what I came up with. 50 tackles and 5 sacks will be good for Gholston. 300-400 yards and 4 TD will be good for Keller. Who else do we have big expectations for that will not produce? That rules out Miller, other safety, Cactus Thomas, and Barton. Pace could suck. Woody could suck. Faneca could break his leg and be out for the year...that would be a bust.
I would go Pace..... the guy was invisable until his contract year than he busts out. Sounds like Bryan Thomas v2 On O I don't know do we have anybody that we really have high expectations for?
A lot of people have unrealistic expectations for them, but I'm not sure I agree. They may be a bust as far as many fan expectations, but realistically I can't consider them busting in year one unless they either don't see the field or see the field and are major disappointments. I.E. Gholston getting zero penetration in the backfield, or Keller dropping 40%+ of passes thrown to him. I agree with your standards and like I said above, unless they stink it up on the field or don't even make it to the field, I couldn't consider them busts. Those stats you posted are at least what they will get in my opinion.
Offense: Coles - Age and prior injuries will catch him sooner or later. Hopefully this is not that year but I just have that feeling. Defense: Kenyon Coleman. Never been a fan. He probably wouldn't be a bust on account of him only being an average DE at this point, so, I think he will be one of our worst defensive players anyway.
Offense: Dustin Keller. With the Baker situation going as it is, a lot of people seem to think Keller is gonna make everyone forget about Baker. That sets him up to be a bust if he doesn't have an above average season. Defense: Justin Miller. He never had the smarts to play CB to begin with. Now he's coming off a major injury. I hope he proves me wrong.
He played DE in 4-3 down in Arizona and sucked big time. Once they switched over to the 3-4, he had his career year.
