This reminds of the day Penny was cheered for getting injured. All along the chorus of calls for Willie's head throughout, I often had to look at my fellow fans and say, "Who are you people?" If you want someone fired, does it really matter how it happens? So many hypocrites out there who should be doing the backflips they promised but now feel bad for the timing. Willie getting fired when he did and the way he did is one of the most classless events I've ever seen in sports. And that included Rudy T getting suckerpunched mid court. It's very similar to Steve Phillips keeping his job when Valentine was let go. By doing one and not the other, you're only delaying the inevitable. The Mets would be wise to open their new stadium with an entirely different regime, from top to bottom. GM and managers shuld go out the door together. All successful turnarounds have had to do it. When the GM gets mercy, it only shows the players that the owners are clueless and they slowly but surely lose respect for the team.

I agree, and it completely refutes your earlier point that it doesn't matter how Willie got fired. I've wanted him fired for months, and it's all of the things that that article talks about that turned this from a routinely necessary move to replace an incompetent manager into a circus.
As disgraceful as this was at least it's over now. I'm suprised no one is talking about the Peterson firing. I really don't understand it myself. What does firing him in the middle of the season accomplish?
i am very surprised at the timing of this, but not surprised he got canned, he deserved it, his mis management of the bullpen cost us last season, and so far this season, he never seems to ph the right players, always sticking w/the righty, lefty matchups, instead of instincs and knowledge, good bye willie, and hello manuel
Nothing much, but I was sick of the jacket and his Phil Jackson act so I don't mind him going, he shouldn't have been forced on Willie in the 1st place.
Did you hear his comments afterwards? Was talking about how homes undergo renovations and they were taking out the hardwood floor to put in some tuscany tile. Then he started giving a sermon about some symbol he was wearing. It was pretty crazy. The Willie comments are just sad. The guy obviously cared it's a shame that didn't translate into better performance.
This will be really interesting. It's possible because of how this mess was handled Minaya will be next to get the axe. If not the Wilpons will have to buy into this whole sorry disaster.
yes, why wouldnt they at least bring in Oberkfell to manage the team, anyone but Manuel, this guy failed once before in chicago for not giving the team a spark. Then the sox got jumped by bringing in Ozzie Gullien, who is the complete opposite and he ignited the team. My point being why wouldnt the mets bring in a guy from the outside to fire this team up? And why the fuck would they send Willie to LA to have him win a big game and then fire him? The last two years have been handled horrible IMO.
Omar: Okay?...Okay?...Okay?...Okay?...Okay? Why does he ask "Okay?" after every statement. Someone should yell out: No it's NOT f'n okay! The only thing I got from this news conference so far is that it was his decision was it to hire Willie.
"It was my decision to hire Willie, and it was my decision to fire Willie. It's just that simple." "I know you guys gotta ax dat questions" "Jerry Manuel will be the manager for the rest of the year."
