Kind of what I'm saying, although from a Jets prespective it's better than what we have because it will be split and not theirs with us as second-class tennants. But to answer your question, there is nothing wrong with the current stadium. I've mentioned this a few times before, but people in Italy were telling me how bad and old the soccer stadiums are there and how Giants Stadium is light years better than what they have. I was embarassed to mention it's being torn down for a newer one.
True, nothing was really wrong with Giants Stadium, it was a boring generic no frills cement bowl, but it has good sightlines and could probably remain standing for a good 20 years. It is good that we will no longer be 2nd class tennants It was not feasible for the Giants to build there own stadium and leave the Meadowlands to us. Parking would be a nightmare with 2 stadiums right next to each other (they have to knock GS down to make extra spots) plus the Giants would have a shiny new place while we inherit there old dump and just knock down the big blue sign? That's another slap in the face.
They could have just replaced one of the red levels of seats with green, painted the place and added on. They tried adding that upstairs country club or whatever it is a few years ago, but I guess that wasn't enough. I"ve never been in there.
Maybe not, I don't know. Shea had an open end with a bay out there and it gave us a tremendous home field advantage once we put a decent team together.
over a billion dollars and no roof? they should name it in honor of leon hess and steve gutman. monument to incompetance...
its stupid that they didnt open one end of the stadium to give everyone a view of the skyline. That could have been the one thing that still connected both teams to NY.
That's what I'm saying. People have always made such a big deal about the stadium being in New Jersey, if you go there and see how close the city is you can understand why they're still New York teams. If you could see it from inside the stadium and during telecasts, people would get it and it would seem like more of a New York thing.
Fixed. I don't equate anything NJ to NY (state wise) other than NYC (Useless info, only 1/5 of NYC is attached to Mainland USA - just annex the island boroughs to NJ and all this NY/NJ talk is moot).
Yea but you lose seats if you open one end. But yea I don't really see the reason for this stadium. The current stadium is fine.
I was wondering that too. I liked the guy on the Redskins board with the signature "16 Years And Counting" since they won the Super Bowl. Bunch of lightweights. That guy must be their version of champ, but younger and with fewer stock tips.
well at least the "old dump" would have been our own! and like you said it would have worked for about 20 more years, and the Gints could have moved up the road instead of in the next parking lot to accomadate everybody.
first of all, as jet fans we know how close it is to the city, 2nd, if an oppossing team fans are there they see it for themselves, 3rd, before the beginning of the game and when they come back from commercials, the camera always shows the skyline
You're right about all of that, I just think if the skyline was part of the visible landscape of the game itself it would help with that connection. Plus, the view of the skyline from that part of New Jersey is awesome, so why not incorporate it somehow? You wouldn't need a whole open end, just a corner. You could put a few more seats somehwere else, they've done it in other places. It doesn't matter now anyway, it's being built and this is what it's going to be.
