I'm always interested in a good story or two. For those of you who have season tickets, do you have any interesting stories to tell about how you got them? Pay somebody "under the table?" Maybe you bought them way back when the Jets were at Shea. Here's how I got mine: I was running a business and had an elderly woman named Rhoda as a bookeeper who's husband was a huge Jets fan. I was too, so whenever this guy would come in to pick up Rhoda, we'd talk Jets football. So, when the Jets moved from Shea to the Meadowlands, a lot of Long Islanders (particularly those from eastern LI) just didn't want to make the trip all the way over to NJ for a game. Who could blame them with the traffic on the Belt Parkway being what it is? It was rumored that Jets tickets could be had. So, my bookeeper's husband knew a sports writer who worked for the Daily News. Maybe some of you remember reading his columns... his name was Dick Young. Rhoda's husband calls up Dick Young and asks him if he can get any tickets, and Dick calls him back and says, "Yeah, I've got you four in the Mezzanine Section." My bookeeper and her husband went to the games for several seasons and she finally decided to retire (about 1986 or so). She was moving to Florida. Next thing I know, Rhoda says to me, "Do you want my tickets?" I figured she was going to charge me something to turn them over to me, but she wanted nothing in return. So she signs over the tickets and I've got them to this day... had them 20 years now. Anybody else have any stories about how they got their tickets?
Mine were passed down since my grandpa had them in the 60's, then he passed them down to my father, so now we split the tickets.
My Dad and my Uncle had tickets for the Titans at the Polo Grounds. They bought them game by game as the Jets for a couple of years to see what was going to happen with the franchise. In 1963 they bought Season Tix and we've had them ever since. Hey, thanks for the legacy of hives and hell. Hehehe. EDIT: And for the long time holders, don't forget about this gem... http://forums.theganggreen.com/showpost.php?p=40882&postcount=63
My Dad and uncle got their season tickets in 1989, at that time I was 2 years old. My uncle doesnt really go to the anymore so he passed them down to me and we're on the waiting list for 2 more seats.
My season tickets arent in my name they are my buddies. I manage the tickets collect the $$$$ and make the trip to pay them evey year. My buddies familly use to have money. They would buy the tickets every year and he would take me to a couple of games a year no charge. In 97 they didnt have the money they use to have. My buddy talks to his mom and she was going to let the tickets go becuase she didnt have the money for them. It was about 2 weeks before the money was due. It took alot of work but I got a bunch of guys together and we paid for the tickets. I hook up with a guy who takes 1/2 the tickets who is a great guy. Every year when the schedule comes out I get the games together and the money. Its not so easy to work with 5 tickets. Everyone wants the best games but I take care of it.
I get them from my ex-coworker's (i got a new job) - Wife's - sister's - Husband - Brothers - Friend's - Friend. No BS - i swear. Over the years, i've eliminated everyone and just pay and receive from the main ticketholder himself. (Corrected)
My uncle and his friend originally each had 2 season tickets apiece up in section 316 (maybe 310?), corner upper deck. After the 1-15 season my uncle was planning on giving the tix up and my mom gave him a check, which he never sent in, to take them over. So we were without tix anymore. This past pre-season, a friend of my mom offered us tix to the Vikings game, which we gladly accepted. 10 rows up, 5 yrd line, sweet tix for the night. Anyway, this guy had 2 season tix and about a month ago contacted my mom and asked if we wanted to take the seats over. He didn't need the 2 seats because his daughters didn't want to go to games anymore and his brother had an extra season ticket for him, so my mom jumped at the chance and now we have 2 tickets back in our family, and even better seats then ever!
Wouldn't your ex-coworkers, wife's, husband be your ex-coworker??? I received mine from my brother who received them from a friends, mothers business. No great story there, but the friendships and parties that have developed since I had them could fill a whole forum of stories....
i think the last time i checked, i am like 3000 on the WL. am i a lock to get season tickets when the new stadium opens?
I'd hang in there, Al. The new stadium is going to be real nice, I'm sure, but I'm bracing myself for a hefty price increase (and maybe PSLs). If that happens, not only will you move up because the stadium has more seating and therefore they'll fill the people ahead of you in no time, my guess is some of the present ticketholders will give up the ghost if the prices get out of hand too. My Mezzanines are already $90 a pop! YIKES!
I took over a company in which a friend of mine owned. He had owned 4 season tickets. He moved away in 1995 and the tickets were transfered to me. I've had them since and will be kept within the family....for years to come.
What's the advantage/disadvantage to being a season tic holder over just buying tics to what ever game you feel like going to?
