TJ and Bryan Thomas FTW. Thomas isn't nearly as bad as people have made it seem to be...I expect a big season with Jenkins and our new kickass LB corps.
i hope it was pace and/or gholston. if it is then that means that the 3-4 is finally working and the LBs are being disruptive like in NE.
To all I'm genuinely interested in posters who posters think , which JET VETERAN will have a standout season. This means players that were here last year, and preferrably not rookies.
No one has mentioned D'Brick yet, so I'll do it. Having Faneca on one side should help tremendously. Also, with a rejeuvenated OL, the Jets should be able to run and pass well, so we won't have to deal with 8 in the box, or D'Brick having to block two guys because he's got no help on either side. After D'Brick, I think Ellis or Thomas should have a good year. Jenkins and Harris are going to eat up the middle, and lots of attention will be placed on Pace and Gholston. Either Ellis or Thomas - and preferably both - should step up and surprise some people. By upgrading some positions, it will be much tougher on other teams to double-team, as the Jets should be able to get pressure from both sides (and don't be surprised if Harris has 5-10 sacks up the middle). Go Jets!
I thought the question says Jet Vet, D'Brick, Gholston, and Harris can not be considered vets, can they?
I think D'Brick should be considered a vet this season - what'll it be, his third season? My other choices - Ellis and Thomas - clearly are vets.
For JETS veterans to have a great year, the new additions (signings + rookies) need to also have a significant impact. The rejuvenation of the team's veterans comes from these additions. Therefore you can't talk about JETS veterans without talking about all the new players.
Revis, he will be in the probowl, and the front 7 we have will the put opposition in more passing downs hopefully increase his pics if they even throw to his side. He made a quick transition to the pros last year.
I'm gonna go with the "Durr" picks: Shaun Ellis, Kerry Rhodes and Jerricho Cotchery. Thomas Jones will be in his second year here so while he is a vet, I don't consider him a Jets veteran.
No one mentioned Mangold, so I will. Last year he had no real help on either side of him, no longer played with Kendall, got dinged up a bit, yet still anchored the OL, the only player who consistently played well. With Faneca on his left this year, I would not be surprised to see him go to the Pro Bowl with Faneca.
I thought Coleman had a good year last year also. He was very solid, I think I read he had 90 tackles. That is awesome for a DE.
I Think in Eric Barton as my Choice for this season in Defense. In Offense it would be interesting to see Jericho Cotchery.
If the QB position settles, I can Cotchery being a top 10 or even top 5 receiver this year in yards receiving. Ellis hasn't dominated anything in 3 years. I don't see anything much coming from him as 3-4 DE now. In fact, I'd say this is his last year as a Jet, now that most of that bloated contract has been paid.
I have to agree with the OL picks....I think with the FA additions...I think the OL will perform well....and with them performing well...that will fix the run game AND pass offense. That being said I think that with the OL performing well will result in TJ and coles/Cotchery performing well...including whomever wins the QB competition. Peace! The Mezz
I don't have any real justification for saying so, but I think BT could have a big year. Justin Miller is a Wild Card. The CS was raving about him coming into his second year last summer so I was optimistic. He has the speed. If his technique and consistency increased dramatically he could be a great one. We'll see...
