I hope the Jets get some big bodies up front before the season starts, otherwise Vilma's undersize frame will be exposed and everyone will see REALIZE how OVERRATED! He really is!

I guess that is one way to get attention insult the best player on our team. That fact that he made the Pro Bowl and led the league in tackles doesnt mean much. Bone Head

He was a pro bowl ALTERNATE because 35 year old Zach Thomas couldn't make it, and the best player on the team is now in Atlanta. As for Bone head, that is a personal attack, obviously you can't have a mature debate.

Vilma is a beast in the middle. I bet you used to hate on Marvin Jones & Mo Lewis when they were here too.

169 tackles, 4 forced fumbles, 1 int last year. Nuff said.

The pro bowl is a bad way to judge because he should have gotten in before Al Wilson, the players that go in goes because of name first, actual production 2nd, Abe was an injury-prone inconsistant 1-dimension player that wanted to be paid the best in his position where he really isn't, and the way you started the debate wasn't very mature either.

J Vilm has done nothing to deserve this criticism......the fact that he wasn't named to the pro bowl first time around was robbery....how do you lead the league in tackles and not get named to the pro bowl??? Someone screwed up and it was made up for when he was named to the team. He upgraded this Defense....abe complained and sat out fearing injury...he was and still is a good player....but to say he was the best and criticize our defensive captain is ridiculous...lay off Vilma

Vilma is not overrated. He can be a monster up the middle, making most tackles that come his way. The last time I checked, he led the NFL in tackles, or was close to it last season. While that was probably in part of the Jets' offense never getting on the field, you can't just blindly ignore that. And Vilma's rookie year he flourished in a good team. Many players are undersized, and are still successful. Wayne Chrebet is undersized. And his position depends alot on size too. Or if you want to go hunt bigger fish, Randle El isn't that huge either but he was great on a Superbowl team. While I'm not saying size dosen't matter, to call Vilma overrated just due to that sheer fact is baloney.

Vilma is the best defensive player we have and with mangini to mold him, he will be the best linebacker this coming year....MVP potential. I like the addition of Kemo and Dyson, our defense will compete well. B. thomas in a 3-4 will be interesting to see, i think he started to emerge last year. I am really confident we will also trade up with texans with our 4th and a 3rd for 1st spot and take.......BUSH. QB next year (Quinn)

Vilma is a very solid middle linebacker, he has been the most consistent player on our team since he has been starting. Mo Lewis is the last player I remember who shows up every game, and plays with intensity and passion. Vilma CAN be mentioned in the same breath as Lewis, that is in itself a compliment. Vilma is quick, makes good reads, he is decisisive and then explodes through the hole. This can not be debated, watch the tape. This is where he gets himself into trouble, he commits, then subsequently over commits and leaves holes. This however is coachable, and WILL get better, because it has to, Jets Fans are owed this. All joking aside, I feel it will get better because Vilma plays the game with intelligence, he understands it.

Does Vilma have to make more impact plays? Yes he does, but he is by no means overrated.

I have no idea why this thread was started, not to mention the manner in which it was done. The guy is 6'1 230 while the avg ILB is what 245lbs. Not to mention you toss in Zach Thomas who is one of the most undersized ILB in the league. I am sorry i believe in heart over phyiscal stature especially when you are talking about 15 lbs. Vilma is quick as hell and a tackling machine.I just think you have absolutely no idea what you are talking about here.

There needs to be a test given before people can start threads. Seriously. This stuff is getting ridiculous.
