He had a 40.5 inch vertical leap? Didn't Santana Moss have a 42 inch vertical leap? That's pretty sick if a DE has a similiar vertical leap to a very athletic WR.

Those numbers and the fact that he can play both the 3-4 and the 4-3, would make him a easy choice at 4...

Here is our starting 3-4 defensive line...

    LE- Ellis
    NT- Von Oelhoffen
    RE- Mario Williams

Here is our starting 4-3 defensive line...

    LE- Ellis
    NT-Kimo Von Oelhoffen
    DT- Monsanto Pope
    RE- Mario Williams

Those are pretty solid defensive lines.

I have always compared Mario Williams to Richard Seymour so we will have to wait and see if he can be a franchise defensive player like Seymour has been for the Pats.

Alot of people worry that Williams won't fit in the 3-4, but I actually think he will be perfect for the 3-4...his combination of Size and speed is very rare and could be a 8 sack per season type of player...

I am sick of the speculation...I am ready to go to Radio City...

when did Von Oelhoffen become a nose tackle? He was a 3-4 RE. Casey Hampton is the Nose Tackle.

He used to be a fulltime nose tackle when he was drafted, got demoted and played a part time nose in pitt. I wouldn't pencil him in as the starting nose though. He's about the same size as mario williams.

We also traded Abe which made Mario more of a need than previously. We have a decent young LT. We have an old JAG DE. Mario is BAP and need.

That's arguable though. We seem to be picking up a rotation of lineman as NE does. However, we have only one tackle on the roster with playing experience. I'd be fine with either player, but my personal feeling is that tackle is a bigger need.

Mario Williams is a freak athelete. Right now we need help on the O-line, but our D-line isn't looking too great either. There are a bunch of high quality tackle prospects in the draft, after Ferguson. But there aren't many DEs who can compare to Williams' mix of size and speed.

Because the word is he isn;t a very good run blocker. I could give a shit how fast he is. OL drafted at #4 should be the complete package.

You read my mind. I hope the Jets take Mario and that McNeil is still on the board for us to grab with our 29th pick.

I think you could argue we need a DE and we need a RT about equally. Mario Williams in my mind is head and shoulders a better pro prospect at DE than either Jones, D'Brick or Cavka are at RT. I also believe he will be a much better pro than D'Brick will be even at his natural LT position.

I agree with drafting Mario at #4 but it is likely that the Saints will pick him up(even with their 2 DE's) and if they pick Mario then we have to go with D'Brick
    With
    D'Brick LT
    Kendall LG
    Mangold/Eslinger C
    Moore RG
    Jones RT

This would be a very good line for years to come. And then we can draft either Lawson or Carpenter with 29 or 35. Lawson can play 3-4 OLB and take Kimo out and start as a 4-3 end
    4-3
    Ellis
    D-Rob
    Pope
    Lawson

    Barton
    Vilma
    Hobson

    3-4
    Kimo
    D-Rob
    Kimo

    Lawson
    Hobson
    Vilma
    Barton

I say none of the above, we are in prime position to get our QB of the future at 4. Mario would be nice but I would rather get the QB, then at 29 you get an OLB that can make just as much impact as Mario would at 4. OLB is the more impact position in the 3-4 than an end. As for Brick, that would be one of the biggest draft mistakes in our history. Not only do we not need a LT, but he is just not in the Pace, Ogden mold and is not worth the 4th pick in the draft, especially considering the depth at the position in this draft..

I am surprised by the number of Mario fans, especially after the FO was ripped for taking Bryan Thomas.

We should know by now that it takes a lot more than a good DL to win it all.

I was aware that he has long ass arm, (which better for the DE postion), I do personal training so I hear what you are saying. I didnt find a 4.66/40 I found a 4.69 which is still really freaking fast for a guy that size, the most impressive thing is still his vert that is sick for a guy thats almost 300lbs

35 is incredible for anyone-- also consider how long his arms are compared to brod bunkley, or any other DT. Its harder for a 6-7 guy to bench, and he still got 35 reps. Thats probably top 10 at the combine.

I know what you are saying but 35 isnt incredible for anyone. I have spotted for and seen guys do over 40 and 50 in the gym (with real lifts alot of the football players are picking their butts up off the bench and bouncing the bar off of their chest) but there is no way in hell these guy could run that fast or jump that high. I think that the combine record is 57 or something like that I have too look it up.

Actually I'm not a Mario fan but the guy is a freak of nature...his stats and what he can do are ridiculous.
We actually don't really need him because of our depth at that position anyway...I mean what did we sign Kimo for then? and it looks like the new FO is going to try and coach up Bryan Thomas who is still young and unproven but still has flashes of brilliance once in a while
