I'm sure that everyone agrees, the FA signings were excellent. Couple that with a half decent draft, its been a good off season for us....so far. I would like us get the Baker situation sorted out sometime soon, this week? And most important, after last years fiasco, get the Rookies signed up. My only bug in all of this is the draft. After the Gholston pick I would have liked to have gone with either QB, WR or ILB in that order. It looked like we picked up our needs out of a hat. Do you really have to be an expert to have figured out that we just got better?
Are the NY Jets better? Honestly, I can't agree. I am not sure how much better the Jets will be this year. I HOPE they are better. But there are always questions marks around every signing. I learned my lesson in the infamous 1-15 season, when Steve Serby had the Jets in the Super Bowl thanks to their free agent signings and draft picks (Keyshawn being the #1 overall that year). Just as in that year, we had a question mark at QB. Just like that year, we signed big names--"can't miss" older guys--who ended up injured and useless. I am sorry I can't generate the enthusiasm the rest of you have for the Jets' moves this past off-season. I think that overall, you can't argue with them. They look good. The Jets should be an improved team in 2008. My point is that the NFL is SO incredibly unpredictable that only a fool would make a prediction about the upcoming season. Who of you geniuses out there would argue that the Patriots could go 4-12 this year, due to thier age and a key injury or two? Or that they could go unbeaten again? lease tell me who predicted that the Giants would sweep the playoffs and beat the unbeaten Patriots in the Super Bowl last year? Predictions are for losers.
Lol, we're on a message board. The whole point is to spend time discussing and predicting stuff that may or may not happen. In the end, most of us are wrong with a few guys posting links to 7 month old posts where they predicted something right for a change. This is how sports message boards operate. If you just want jets news you can go to si.com for that. As for us being big winners, of course we are on paper. We spent the most money, had a high draft pick and really invested in playmakers who play in the trenches, something analysts usually like. Personally, I think it all comes together for us this year. Yeah we did throw some big money out there but the guys we brought in seem to have the mentality necessary for helping us get out of our rut. I'm looking forward to seeing us make a playoff push...hopefully with Clemens at the helm but I don't mind if Pennington does his thing again. One thing is for certain; the Coach is all out of excuses....he's got 'his' guys out there now and I think with all the pieces in place we should see what his defense should truly look like.
Outside of Bruschi, Harrison and maybe Webster & Bryant who both are 31 who's old on the Patriots? They got young as hell really fast. Moss is Moss and Vrabel is probably better then any LB on the Jets so...........Who's old?
Vrabel had a freak year, i don't see him being nearly as effective like that ever again. Usually when someone goes from 4.5 sacks to 12.5, the question of steroids come to mind. The Pats don't have many guys who are ready to lead at the age of 26,29. The leaders are all 30+, giving them the label of an old team. If Harrison, Bruschi, and Seymour are all not on the field at the same time, then that defense and team become something completely different. Brady is now 31, but he won't start to decline in the least until about 35.
No way, as much as I hate saying this, just with his attitude, the team will do better. They will win more games this year and be more competitve
The thing is what more could the Jets have done? They identified 3 areas of need right away, offensive line, nose tackle and the pass rush. Then they went out and got the best available offensive lineman, best available nose tackle and two guys that should fit our system perfectly to rush the passer. Regardless of how the season turns out, the front office has to be a front office winner. Now its on the coaching staff to make sure everyone fits together and plays to their potential.
Predicitions are the only thing keeping serious fans from absolute boredom at this point in the year. Although I can't argue against the NFL being unpredictable, I would say that our FA signings alone would win us at least half of the 7 games we lost last year by 7 points or less--perhaps even the O-line FA signings alone. The potential upside of our first 2 picks is tremendous, and the hope of our later round picks being gems is there. I think there is reason for optimism. That is not saying a whole lot.
Is there an instruction book to navigate the site. every where I go it says you need so many posts. today is my first day.
Welcome to TGG. You need 50 posts to start a thread, which doesn't take long to get to. There are various sticky threads at the header of each topic, read those and you'll be fine
Of course there are question marks around every signing. But you're right about one thing. Making predictions this far away from the regular season is an exercise in futility.
