This is a question thread. Of all the 2008 1st round picks, whom do you feel will hold out the longest? The reason I posted this question in this forum is because, in all honesty, I think it might be Vernon Gholston. I don't want to be a Negative Nancy, but with Calvin Pace and Bryan Thomas being paid as starters and with Bowens on the roster, and with the Jets front office history, I think we're gonna play some hardball.
It depends on the agents the picks hire. If they get the one that Kendall, Revis, and Baker have, I could picture it getting pretty interesting again this year.
Honestly I think the guys likely to hold out are the ones who either fell a little bit, or the guys who were traded up for (ala Revis last year) or the #1 pick, since the #1 guy is under wraps, he can't hold out. So my bet is Derrick Harvey, the Jags traded way up to get him, so he is going to want max money, say #6 level money, and I believe he also has Condon or Rosenhaus as his agent... which leads to crazy negotiations, as it is. Gholston could hold out but I for some reason think he has a sane agent... Don't ask me who it is, but for some reason I don't think it is Rosehaus or Condon or another notoriously hard to deal with agent...
I agree that it could be Harvey because of the big jump the Jags took. I think most projected him to go in that area tho. Many thought Mayo would go much later though so maybe (and hopefully) he is the guy. My guess is Dorsey though. For some reason I think he will want top 3 money. He is the best player in the draft.
With the Jets front office history of having everyone in camp and signed the past couple of years, I wouldn't worry at all about Gholston holding out.
Aqib Talib will hold out the longest. Why? Becuase he'll be so high, he'll forget to hire an agent until TC. Plus he only does Marijuana and coke together. That makes him an elite NFL player even before an NFL snap...lol This 'who will hold out the longest' talks are BS. Every situation is different.
Hopefully McFadden holds out. This organization sucks so much, I heard they're barely making the cap so far and that's after they just released Dominick Rhodes (and I believe Lamont Jordan). Between Russell and McFadden (if they bust) they will tie up that franchise for the next few years and that brings a smile to my face.
I'd have to say McFadden only because the Raiders are known for contract problems. Gholston will be fine, the FO doesn't want another Revis deal on its hands. I think Gholston will have a complicated contract considering his boom/bust potential. Incentives out the ass but a good 18 Mill guaranteed.
