New York Jets With their first pick the Jets took the most explosive pass rusher in the draft in Vernon Gholston. They will convert Gholston to OLB just like Calvin Pace and Bryan Thomas were converted from DE to OLB. I like Gholston as a player. In the three games I watched on him he I saw a guy who could really accelerate to the QB, who could jolt the OT. He showed the ability to anchor at the point of attack and beat blocks. In the LSU game I saw some plays where he did not hustle they way he should, but overall he played with a good motor. He has already had some experience playing OLB in college. I think his immediate impact will come as a nickel rusher. Dustin Keller is an exceptional receiver as a TE. He is quick, fast, athletic and can catch the ball. He is not much of a blocker so he might best be used as a backside blocker or flexed out. CB Dwight Lowery is a productive player who will play best in a zone scheme or be moved into safety. QB Eric Ainge is tough and efficient but I do not see him as the answer at QB.
Yessir. He's a good football mind stuck in a world full of know-it-alls and loudmouths (aka reporters and fans).
Yeah, I gotta hand it to him. Everyone and their brother in Houston wanted him dead for not taking Vince Young and everyone in the rest of the country thought he was an arrogant idiot for passing on Reggie Bush. But the Texans play the Colts twice a year: you got to have a pass rush.
I really like his analysis on CBS too- he's one of the few writers/analysts who put the "taking plays off" BS in context. Gholston is still a phenomenal pass rusher.
I trust Casserly more than anyone. His reputation over the last 3 decades is one of the best. I hope he is right about our top 3 selections, Lowery could be a sick safety next to Rhodes, while playing CB against some possession WRs in the slot. Sidenote: Apparently from what I hear about Marcus Henry- he's a hell of a pick in the 6th round and will make this team, according to Kiper.
Thats not much of a reach. At thus point he's in the running with Smith, Wright, and Stucky for the #3 spot. Not really top end guys to be fighting with.
I know we have meh talent at the #3 WR spot, but i'm thinking/wondering/hoping that this kid may actually be special for a 6th rounder and will produce considering he is 6'4''.
I watched him the whole time on NFLN and he was the only opinion I was paying attention to during the draft.
...well he picked up tackles Tony Boselli and Ryan Young in the expansion draft, and neither played a snap in David Carr's first year. Casserly drafted some pretty good linemen for the Texans. Pitts and Winston are both solid.
I knew he made the right call at the time.I wanted us to trade up for Mario. He would have been a Beast in the 3-4.
Carr getting sacked 81 or so times as a rookie is not his fault... You can't blame David Carr for getting sacked. He is shell-shocked now, but that's because he was hit so many times in Houston. He gets rid of the ball rather fast, and that's his problem...it's not like he's hanging onto the ball for too long. He never had time to throw in Houston, and it ruined his career.
