I have never done one before, but I've been following this draft pretty closely, and I have a pretty good idea on where folks will go. This is a no-trade draft. I'm going to work up a new one later with trades, given time. 1-4: LB AJ Hawk, unless Mario Williams is still available, and I don't think he will be. NO QB, you ask? If it's my call, I go with Pennington/Ramsey/Jacobs this year. If Pennington proves he cannot play anymore, and neither of the other guys step it up, then I make that my #1 priority next year. 1-29: OC Nick Mangold 2-35: OT John Scott 3-71: RB Brian Calhoun (I know many think he won't slip thi sfar, but I really believe he will. And I also believe I will wet myself, because I really like this guy.) 3-97: QB Omar Jacobs 4-103: WR Jonathan Orr (Finally, a guy with my last name on the team!) 4-117: OG Mark Setterstrom 5-138: DT LeKevin Smith 7-211: DT Manase Hopoi 7-217: DE Charles Bennett Now, I can't say I am totally familiar with all the names on this list. I don't break down tape and grade these guys. Some I have seen play, and others I go by various sources around the 'net. Thoughts? Please keep in mind this is not a prediction of what I believe will happen. Rather, it is a post to inspire some serious draft discussion. Thanks!
I think if Mario is gone, they take Brick. I know Mangini is a defensive coach, but the O-line is the biggest area of need and I don't see them passing up the best player at the postion. Also, the FO is letting info slip about their workouts with the QBs and Williams, but NOTHING about Brick. This from a FO that keeps everything close to the vest. I find that very percular. It is all a smoke screen, and I truly think their target is Brick. JUst my opinion. But I like that draft (replacing Hawk with Brick my only change). I would be more than happy with it.
Orr would be cool to have and would be a great pick, hes a terrific receiver.. BTW, Tony where have ya been? I havent heard from you in awhile...i have so much to tell you!
yes it would be-- but I don't like hawk at 4. If we traded down a few and got him, I would be fine with it- but not at 4. If we went LB,T,C/G with the first 3- I would rather D Brick, Lawson/Ryans, Mangold/Jean Gilles. I LOVE manny Lawson- can't say I have seen him play much, but his measurables are amazing. Better combine numbers than any LB.
I don't see Omar Jacobs being the last player selected on Day one...he is a solid second round early third round player...
speakin gof brian calhoun, that guy is amazing...after listening to him the whole year as a badger, id take that guy in a heartbeat, hes going to be a quality back somewhere, hopefully in new york
I have to say, that's a really good draft. Just a few comments: - I would rather have AJ Hawk than Mario Williams so I liked that pick - Can Jonathan Scott plat RT? - Not crazy about the Calhoun pick... Great draft overall!
I don't like Calhoun simply because I don't think he's an upgrade over what we have. If we're going to take a RB, it should be Bush, Williams, White, Maroney, and MAYBE Addai, because those guys can come in and start or contribute more than Curtis or Houston would. Can't really say the same thing about Calhoun, I just don't see him being better than Houston.
I go D'Brick instead of Hawk, because I believe that D'Brick is just to good of a pick to pass up. There are Hawk like guys in the second. A Manny Lawson, Bobby Carpenter, a Thomas Howard. Thus that would change the Jonathan Scott pick. Maybe you go Charles Spencer at that spot. I'll post mine soon. But other than that I like the picks Tony. Especially the Calhoun one. That would be a steal if I ever saw one.
Noooooo TONY!! Don't say it.... Not another one lost to the "Mock Side"... (Get's on his knees, Looks straight up and raises his hands stretching to the gods) Por Quaaaaa!!!!!??? Por Quaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!???
Now here I can say with some authority that I believe you are wrong. I watched a lot of Wisconsin football this year, and Calhoun is an upgrade over every RB on our roster, including Curtis (and you know how I feel about Curtis, so that is high praise). Calhoun has excellent vision, patience, and can cut the carpet nicely. He'll slip because he only played one year at Wisconsin, and had a slower then expected 40 time. If I could just pick a RB from this year, it wouold be LenDale White over any other back. But knowing what I know about Calhoun, I feel good about passing White (where he cannot be picked without blowing all value of the pick), filling more direct needs, and still getting a very quality RB to compliment Houston for future years.
