No, I think our defense sucked for at least half a season last year and the new roster hasn't even played together in Training Camp yet.
i think its the 2nd best behind the pats, the D improved toward the end of the season now with the additions of kris jenkins and gholston should just improve it.
on paper it is close. pats dline is still better. but our LBers are better than theirs we are probably better in the secondary too again, this is all ON PAPER
I think you still have to give it to the Pats, even after losing both of their starting CB's and getting a year older. I do think they take a step back defensively, not sure how much though. The Jets could have improved themselves tremendously with 2 pass rushers and a legitimate 3-4 NT. Plus Harris and Revis have a full year under them now. Buffalo could be a lot better too with the additions of Marcus Stroud, Kawika Mitchell and Leodis McKelvin. Right now I'd rank them: NE Jets Buffalo Miami
They have such a tremendous line, and don't underestimate the intelligence of their LB's which is probably even more important than pure athleticism. Their secondary is questionable right now, but with the pressure they always have it doesn't really need to be that good. Great coaching too, or was it all just because of Spygate?? That being said, I think our defense CAN be the best in the division if Jenkin, Pace, and Gholston pan out.
Lets take it easy, one day at a time. Our defense down the stretch, the last 5 or 6 games should be great as long as we dont suffer any injuries, but all these guys have not even gotten together yet. Lets put a hold on calling them the best in the AFC East.
Our D did bad last year because they other teams offense had so many chances and a short field to work with... hard to stop a team like the pats when they have to move the ball 30 yards
I think we should be ranked right up there with the best in the AFC. The addition of Kris Jenkins is being overlooked. In the 3-4 defense THE most important position on the defensive line is the nose tackle. Although Kris Jenkins has never played in it before he has the girth and ability to be able to take beat the center on almost every play (think Ted Washington owning Kevin Mawae) this will cause a guard to come over from either side to help. This is crucial because it frees up a linebacker ala David Harris to roam freely and make plays. Now the only criticism I have of our draft is that I wish we could have gotten a free safety because I don't know enough about about Abram Elam, but if the staff feels confident that he can get the job done I will have to trust them.
I have noticed an alarming trend of nearly every post assuming Jenkins will automatically be a stud NT. Lets not forget Jenkins is new to the position and he may take a little bit to settle in. Also I think it is a little hard to say we have the best defense in the division when not one poster could confidently name who will be our second cb. All that pessimism aside if everything falls in to the place and the D doesnt get off to another slow start on paper it should be nasty and keep us in/win games. It very well may end up being the best in the division, but it is way too early to tell.
Its way to early to tell but I think Buffalo might be up there to depending on recovery of injuries last year. Id say Buffalo Pats Jets Miami It could all change once season starts I think we will go up once we build up some team chemistry and find out who the Defensive leaders come out.
It really all depends on how Kris Jenkins plays. If he is effective then there is a good possibility we could have a great D this year. We will easily be better than last year thought which is main concern.
We don't even know: 1. Who the Front Seven will be. 2. Who will start opposite Revis 3. Who will start opposite Rhodes 4. Who will the other ILB be next to Harris. 5. Which sides Gholston (hopefully LOLB) or Pace will man. 6. Who will survive Training Camp. I agree with Brothermoose though. We'll definitely be in the Top 4 in the division.
