Now that the draft has come and gone, i suggest that thanks to spygate, NE ended up 'reaching' for Jerod Mayo instead of combining both 1st round pics (#31 & #7) in a trade up for Chris Long or perhaps even Jake Long.

Mangini blowing the whistle on Beli-cheat is directly what's responsible for the drop-off from Long down to Mayo playing for the Pats.

Directly or indirectly, this has to be the biggest draft day screw job ever. EVER.

I thought the same thing. They would have owned the draft with that pick, and we probably don't get Keller.

i should have added that every poster on here has thought the exact same thing, so what is really curious is how the draft-nics never brought this up.

come on! i'd love to see (or read) a little salt rubbed in beli-cheat's wounds! i'll grab the shaker. morton's? sea salt? rock salt? ah hell lets use all three! rub a dub dub.

Where we really lucked out is San Francisco getting hot (Ok not hot, more like lukewarm) towards the end of the season. For a while last year, it looked like the Pats were going to be picking ahead of us which would have been an unmitigated disaster!

As it was, they ended up at #7 which IMO was just outside of the consensus "money picks". They were able to trade down but it only netted them essentially a trade up from 5th rd. to 3rd round. I can live with that.
