he'll go where he belongs Besides a couple of direct snap runs and a couple of key 3rd downs in 06 . Brad Smith has shown me nothing. He will be in the mix with his spot on the line. His receiving skills need work. His Quarter back play shows why hes slashing in other positions. Special teams and then gone ...unless!?
So nobody thinks Keller is the third wideout? He's certainly not a TE at this point and we are paying him first round money. I think it's his job to lose.
I agree, would much rather have Stuckey or our 5th pick Marcus Henry win the battle for WR 3. These guys are true WR's not trying to learn the position on the fly. Smith will be good for special teams, a gadget play every few games and insurance if one of our WRs gets injured. Still has a place on the team but it is def in the background.
Smith is the third wideout. He'll run the gadget play, play special teams and be the emergency backup to.
I think he'll be a Gates type that lines up at TE and often motions out as a WR. He doesn't need to block because he can just be a decoy on a run play and take a guy away from the run.
He still fits in pretty well as a failed experiment...he should be able to fill McCareins shoes this year quite easily.
just to put things in perspective: last year, Smith had as many TD's as Cotchery and half as many yards as Coles. and did someone really say, "Brad Smith=Ray Lucas"? that's just preposterous. let's let Smith actually focus on WR and WR only this year. he's athletic enough to make plays when he has the ball. for a guy that didn't play WR in college, he looks like he can get the job done. think about it this way, he's lasted longer converting from QB to WR than some natural WR's who were drafted.
Funny how quickly people forget Smith's rookie year. He's still a young player...a player who despite all the negative criticism made some plays for us last year. For god sake's let him develop!
I am happy with the way the WR corp has turned out. Coles, Cotchery, Smith, Wright, Stuckey, Henry. I am very happy with those 6 as of right now. Throw in Keller, Baker, and Franks. Mangini knows what he is doing. Its finally shaping together in the 3rd year. Youthâ„¢
I do. He has the speed, height & hands to line up at WR. I expect him to be a slot receiver & run the occasional long route. I see him as very Colston-esque.
The guy was drafted as an athletic PROJECT.....learning to play the WR position on the fly, and unlike Matt Jones wasn't drafted in the 1st rd. :breakdance: He'll still have a space on this roster, Not only as a WR, but he's one of the better players on special teams.
Sure, give him time to develop as a WR. I have zero expectations for him going into this season, so anything he does will be gravy to me. But...please...no more options.
