Since we have a history with trading with Carolina, don't be surprised that we trade down to #13 since Carolina covets Matt Ryan. The Jets could get Carolina's 2nd Rd pick or both of their 3 rd picks, both scenarios are close in value. At 13 we could target.....Derrick Harvey, Rashard Mendenhall, Devin Thomas, Keith Rivers, Chris Wiillams (move woody to RG), DRC (if he slips)....lots of options. Heres the article from Great Blue North Draft Report: NFC Cats may be looking at top QB? Boston College QB Matt Ryan, the top-rated passer in the 2008 draft class, hasn?t necessarily gotten much love from teams at the very top of the draft order, however, Carolina has reportedly become enamored with his pro potential. So much so, in fact, that the Panthers are reportedly exploring options to move up in the draft in order to select Ryan as the heir apparent to incumbent starter Jake DelHomme who is coming back off a serious elbow injury which limited him to just three games in 2007. The Panthers, who have the 13th pick overall, have reportedly had talks with both the New York Jets and New England, with the 6th and 7th picks respectively, about the possibility of moving up. Of course, there are no guarantees that Ryan will still be available at #6 with Atlanta at #3 and Kansas City at #5 possible landing sites. It wouldn't be cheap for the Panthers to climb from #13 to the 6-7 range as it could cost them as much as their second round pick, the 43rd overall.
Sweet, McKelvin or Cromartie at #13 then trade the second from carolina and our second to move up for Flacco or Sweed.
If that move happens, then it sounds like we would go with Stewart or Rashard Mendenhall. 2nd round would be Lofton the ILB and then wed take James Hardy or Malcolm Kelly with Carolina's 2nd rounder. Mendenhall, Lofton, Kelly could be the 3 guys............ Though the Jets havent so and so worked out these men.
If we trade out, I doubt we'll be drafting a RB in the 1st. I believe we are drafting defense in the 1st IMO.
Ehh not much defensive guys to really grab at that portion of the draft(13), unless you like DRC which I am not too big on. If we were to take Mendenhall though, Millen would be a little upset there certainly.
Flacco will be the next Big Ben. As long as he stays off motorcycles.... I really like this kis and while Ryan is more polished, Flacco has the biggest upside.
If Gholston, McFadden and Long are gone by then its nice knowing we may already have a potential trade partner to trade down to accumulate more picks. Not that I dislike Ryan...but I need to see what Clemens can do behind an oline that can block.
i would only do this trade if gholston, long and mcfadden are all gone. If they are, i would be ecstatic over this trade.
The Jets won't trade down unless both Longs, McFadden and Gholston are all gone. They might even take Ryan too.
Keep in mind the rumor of the Jets reportedly being in love with Stewart. The 13 pick would be the perfect spot to grab him while gaining extra picks in the process. I can't say i would be opposed to a move like that.
That was my thinking. If the Longs, McFadden, and possibly Gholston are gone, I do this. Hell, I might even do it if Gholston's on the board since we could still fill OLB at Carolina's pick (Harvey, maybe Groves) or in the 2nd (Avril).
I can't help but think that the Ravens are going to jump on Harvey/Groves if Ryan isn't on the board for them... And I wouldn't leave Kentwan Balmer off the list of guys we might trade down for...he's had a really, really good offseason for himself.
You know, I keep forgetting about him when I really shouldn't. A DE rotation of Coleman, Ellis, and Balmer could end up being pretty damn good. I definitely wouldn't mind him at 13 if we traded down or Dre Moore in the 2nd if he lasts.
Dre Moore should last until mid-2nd. A lot of scouts are knocking him because he only turned it on for one year. He's boom or bust, but I would love to see him in Green and White. I believe he can be a force in the 3-4.
If this trade happens and we can go something like Harvey-Hardy-Moore or Stewart-Hardy-Moore, I don't think I could be happier. That's a helluva haul.
My thinking too because it also guaruntees that the Cheaters won't be getting one of those guys either. It's still my belief that the NFL should have said the hell with the fines that the fans of the Pats will end up paying for anyway and stripped the Pats of all day 1 picks.
At first I was not too thrilled with trading down. If any of our guys dont reach us I dont mind trading down and taking Mendenhall or Stewart.
Mid second? Not with his combine. You don't find 300+ men running a 4.88 with Moore's strength and pass rushing ability. He's a big time possibility for the Browns, 49ers, or Dolphins in the first or early second. Then theres 4-3 teams like the Jags, Broncos, Raiders, Bengals, Texans, Colts...I'm probably missing a few...the Steelers would probably love Moore too. I think we'd be lucky if we got him with our high second. Guys with his size, athleticism, and upside don't last too long. It's not like he was bad in '06 either.
That would great if that happens im almost wishing McFadden, Gholston and Long are all gone just so that situation could happen.I do believe in value over need but this draft is so deep that i wouldnt mind it.
