Apparently Jared Allen is as good as gone. He's going to the Vikings according to Michael Smith and will likely be traded before the draft for the Vikings first and third. My question is, is there a chance that Chiefs take Gholston if he's there?
    Possibility
    1. Miami - Jake Long
    2. St Louis - Chris Long
    3. Falcons - Glenn Dorsey or Ryan
    4. Oakland - RUN DMC
    5. Chiefs - Gholston?
    6. Jets - ? (royally fucked)

I think there is a big dropoff in talent after those guys. I really don't think that any CB in this draft is worth the #6 pick. I pray this does not happen.

At that point, we better pray someone wants to trade up for Ryan. I have no desire to draft a CB at #6.

The Chiefs better take an offensive lineman like Branden Albert. That offensive line is absolutely horrific. For once in my life, I feel bad for someone and that someone is Larry Johnson.

Even though O-line is a need, there is an abundance of O-line talent in the first round. So they may think to replace Allen with Gholston then take someone like jeff otah down at #14, considering Brandon Albert at #5 is a reach.

Yep. Especially if they get the Vikes #1. Much better place for them to take a Tackle.

If they replace Jared Allen with that #5 pick, their fans will be pissed. That will mean they basically traded Allen away for nothing. By trading him away, it makes another need. Offensive line is their BIGGEST need, so they need to fill that with their top pick.

They need to fill their biggest needs with their first rounders. I can honestly see the Chiefs drafting two offensive linemen in round 1...or maybe a o-lineman and a wideout.

this is not a good thing for the Jets, because now it is a garuntee, that even if Gholston or Chris Long falls to #5, the Jets won't be getting that guy. because like stated above the Vikings would be giving up #17 to the Chiefs who at that point could easy take an OL like a Jeff Otah or a Gosder Cherilus. or they could do what the Jets did in 05 and select OL at both picks in round 1. So if you are a Jets fan root for Branden Albert at #5 and hope they look to replace Allen at #17 or select a tackle like Otah then. If the Chiefs go DL at #5 the Jets only chance to get a guy they want is if the top 3 go like this,
    Phins- Jake Long
    Rams- Glenn Dorsey
    Falcons- Sedrick Ellis

that way Mcfadden, Chris Long and Gholston are all at #4. then if the raiders take DMC we get whoever the chiefs don't pick at #5 between long and gholston, or if the raiders go chris long or Gholston, the Jets would likely be left with Mcfadden.

Of course KC would draft Chris Long if he falls, but he won't fall. I can't see them replacing Jared Allen so soon (unless it's Long), because it would mean they virtually traded their best player for a unknown rookie replacement and another mid-first pick. Their fans would be upset.

Shefter thinks the Falcons will take Ryan.

Agree this complicates things. We need the Rams to take Dorsey and the Falcons to take Ryan. That leaves C Long, Gholston and Mcfadden.

Rumor has it that the Rams are trying to get out of their #2 spot because Al Saunders and Scott Linehan love DeSean Jackson.

I can't see how you can pass up drafting a Chris Long or a Glenn Dorsey for DeSean Jackson...but whatever.

I don't know that it really does have an effect on us to be honest. I think regardless, we all know who the top 6 players are going to be. If KC still had Allen and they were looking at McFadden, and Gholston as the best 2 on the board, I'm sure they would trade the pick away rather than reach for Clady or Albert. Either way, I think the top 6 picks are set- we obviously have to hope that Ryan and Dorsey are picked before we're on the clock.

I think the bigger issue from todays news could be Steve McNair's Retirement. What is Baltimore going to do, go into the season with Troy Smith and Kyle Boller battling out the starting spot? They have to make sure they get one of the top QB's, and waiting until 8 may not serve them well. Watch for them to possibly trade down for Brohm or Flacco-- but hopefully for us, they will want to trade up for Ryan. That's great weather they trade with us, or anyone else in the top 5.

Is this more to dump salary instead of paying Allen a monster deal?? In that case they'll get their DE in later rounds and draft a OL with the #5.

Yes, Allen wants Dwight Freeney type money and the Chiefs don't want to give that to him.

I agree...the Chiefs absolutely have to draft offensive line early in this draft. They will take a defensive end either in the 2nd or 3rd round...or maybe even later. Jared Allen was a 4th rounder. The Chiefs may think they can find another diamond in the rough.

If Gholston or Long are there they will take one of them. To have one of them be a bookend with Tamba Hali would be a dream for a defensive coach . Mr. Tampa 2 would also have to take a look at Ellis, who would fit in the 3 technique, a must for the Tampa 2. Players of their talent level just wont be around by the Vikes pick, no less round 2. With the Vikes pick they could grab the Tackle they need (OTAH) and with their second rounder they could grab a guard. It would actually save them money in the long run.

If Gholston or Long is there the Chiefs would have to take him. After Jake Long the OL is all lumped together. As someone else has mentioned, If Dorsey and Ryan go 2nd and 3rd, as I expect then the Jets will be ok. We need to remember this is more than a 6 player draft. The Jets may have trade down options with Ellis or Ryan. Also remember that things are never as they seem. No one expected Levi Brown to go in the top 5 last year or Donte Whitner in the top 10 the year before. There are always unexpected things that happen at draft time.

Most mocks now think Oakland will take Gholston allowing McFadden to fall to us. It's KC that is fucked.

Of course I don't think for a second that those top 7 teams today will be the top 7 teams next Saturday or drafting in that order if they are.

If Allen leaves KC I don't think much changes. Just limits our chances of getting Chris Long or Gholston.

    1. Miami - J. Long
    2. St. Louis - C. Long
    3. Atlanta - G. Dorsey
    4. Oakland - V. Gholston
    5. KC - ??? <- They could reach for Albert, or another offensive lineman or Sedrick Ellis here.
    6. NYJ - D. McFadden

Here is how I see it going...

    1-Dolphins- Vernon Gholston
    2-Rams- Glenn Dorsey
    3-Falcons- Jake Long
    4-Raiders- Chris Long
5-Chiefs-Trade down, Sedrick Ellis OR Branden Albert
    6-Jets- Darren McFadden

    OR

    1-Dolphins- Jake Long
    2-Rams-Glenn Dorsey
    3-Falcons-Matt Ryan
    4-Raiders-Chris Long
5-Cheifs-Trade down or Sedrick Ellis OR Branden Albert
    6-Jets- Darren McFadden

The key is for Chris Long to still be on the board at #4 and the key to that happening is the Rams have to take Glenn Dorsey which I think they will do anyway.

I still see McFadden a Jet at the end of the day.
