1) Miami: Chris Long 2) St. Louis: Vernon Gholston 3) Atlanta: Glenn Dorsey 4) Oakland: Darren McFadden 5) KC: Jake Long Unfortunately for us that's the way I see the draft shaping up. Ideally a team like Carolina (13) will want Ryan bad enough to trade up but I don't see it happening. So if the draft panned out like this, here's what I'd do: 1) Leodis McKelvin, CB, Troy. While I don't love going CB first round two years in a row, I think at this point he's the best choice. He has the talent to start right away and corner oppossite Revis at this point needs to be upgraded. Rhodes, Revins and McKelvin have the potential to be a very good unit for a long time. 2) Jerod Mayo, ILB, Tennesee. His injury history is a bit of a concern but he's quickly rising up draft boards and might not even be around at this point. He has ideal 3-4 inside linebacker skills and could fit next to Harris for a long time. If he is taken earlier Curtis Lofton out of Oklahoma would be Plan B here. 4) Kendall Langford, DE/DT, Hampton. Small school prospect that has gotten enough publicity I don't think he can be considered a sleeper anymore but regardless is a good player. Has ideal 3-4 defensive end size and skill set and could be a good rotational player right away with the potential to be more. NFL.com compares him to Ty Warren so even if he's not that good he'd be good value here. 4) Jerome Simpson, WR, Coastal Carolina. Solid receiver prospect who has some potential. Good size at 6'2, doesn't have top end speed but has the potential to be a good receiver at the next level. 6) Dennis Dixon, QB, Oregon. His rehab is apparently going extremely well (good SI article on him from last week). At one point was the favorite for the Heisman and was leading his team to the National Championship before his injury. High upside and at this point in the draft he'd be worth a flyer. 7) Jaimie Silva, S/LB/ BC. Do not peg me as having any kind of alligience to BC. In fact as a Villanova student who was wait listed at BC, I have nothing but ill will towards the school. But Silva is a good football player who I don't think will ever be a starter at the next level but has special teams potential. Trying to sign the guy with the long name who was the Pro Bowl special teamer from Chicago who signed with Baltimore shows we're looking to upgrade that area and Silva has potential to at least make the team which is all you can ask for out of your 7th round pick.
i don't see gholston going second. everyone keeps saying how he disappears during games. if he's so damn physically gifted, why isn't he dominating every game he's in? STL is probably going o-line anyway. i think he falls to us at 6, 'cuz oaklands already spent so much money on the defensive side of the ball.
I would be very happy with that draft, but I think Mayo will be gone by 36, and Langford & Simpson might not be there in the 4th. It would be great though.
If everything plays out like its looking now J. Long will be the first pick think C. Long will go to the Rams, I agree Dorsey to Falcons, I think Oakland will go Gholston, the Chiefs are the wild card then I dont know what they will do I think they will try real hard to trade down or make a reach pick on one of the other OT. Leaving us taking Mcfadden which Im not 100% on but he would make it so all the commentators would be talking about us all day. Id hope we could trade down ourselves and grab something more needed WR, DE, LB, CB
The Phins are most likely taking Jake Long first; The Rams should take a DT or OL - Maybe Dorsey or Ellis - It doesn't really make sense for them to take C. Long; if they took a DT they could move CArriker back to DE... THe Falcons may take Ryan or Dorsey... THe Raiders could take C. Long, Gholston, or DMC The Jets would be sitting pretty if they could have the choice of either DMC, Gholston, C. Long
There is absolutely no way, no. If St. Louis picks up Vernon Gholston, it's only because they like him better than Chris Long and Miami picked Jake. Also, Silva in the seventh? BARGAIN. I'd love to see that happen.
I'm pretty confident Dorsey is a lock to St. Louis.. but if this is the case I think you are right in selecting McKelvin. I don't think Simpson will be there in the 4th. I don't think Mayo will be there in the 2nd. Langford is a beast. I really hope he lasts till the 4th.
