Mike Tirico: "I Don't think the Jets have had an explosive player for the last 10 years."

Frustratingly true. That's why we have to take McFadden if he falls to us. Anyone else see this week's issue of the ESPN the Magazine? They have a draft section about the cities picking in the top 10, and for New York City they interview Nick Mangold, yet feature a picture and more qoutes from Justin Tuck, both of whom talk about bullshit expensive restaurants to go to in Manhattan. Now that, I didn't like...

  3. Realistically, superstar playmakers do not win super bowls. It's physical and aggressive front lines, the ability to play a ball control style of offense, avoidding turnovers and luck.

W/ that said, superficially speaking...It'd be nice to have a superstar on the jets again for media and in game excitement reasons. Dmac would be just that.

when J Abe played he was explosive. C-Mart wasn't explosive but he is the 4th best RB of all time. I find Kerry Rhodes explosive, no one outside of the Jets knows it yet. I'm not a fan of Tirico outside of commentary at ESPN. Don't speak as an anchor when there are 3 experts who trump what he says.

I guess I agree and disagree with you.

I think McFadden would garner the Jets a lot more publicity and interviews with the national media and put the team in the spotlight. And that's fun because it's great to see the team featured on these national shows. It may even mean more SNF/MNF games.

Besides the fact that I think he's got major bust potential (sorry), I've seen too many of these hype machines not get teams any closer to the Super Bowl. I'd rather see a big old corn fed, nasty lineman.

Jabe and Rhodes play defense...the guys ESPN's "on the clock" were talking about explosive offensive players.

Of course he has major bust potential. So did Peterson last year. It comes with the territory when you are a top 10 QB, RB or WR. They all have major star potential too. It just has to play itself out. You have to take the risk or you can never get the reward.

Barry Sanders was an explosive offensive player and the Lions never sniffed the Super Bowl. What explosive offensive players did the Giants have last year? Who did the Steelers have in '05-'06.

This need for an "explosive player" on offense in a media-created myth.

If you're guaranteed 4 yards every offensive play, you don't need someone who can "take it to the house.

Defense wins championships. Explosive offensive players sell jerseys.

Keep the nose to the grindstone, FO!!
Select Gholston at No. 6. If he's not there go with the Best CB Available.
After that, let's get some great new Big Uglies.
Then worry about some speed on the outside.

He may be the 4th leading rusher but he's not the 4th best RB of all time. Not even close.

  14. To me, C mart is more of an all time great workhorse not so much RB.

He's top 5, possibly top 3 workhorse RB of all time.

RB wise he's somewhere in the top 25.

Yep. C-mart durable untill his last year. He was alwas very good and very healthy. He put up great numbers, but was never a truly "amazing" talent. His ability to stay that healthy for that long is a testement to his offseson work, a little luck, and being one tough SOB.

Yep, god forbid a guy put up good numbers in school, and have a great work outs as well.

Everyone in this draft can have the over rated thing thrown at them.

Ryan threw a lot of picks and does not have a cannon of an arm.

Dmac has Skinny legs, fumbles a lot and has never carried the load by himself.

Chris Long played against only so os teams for the most part and lacks Gholstons numbers.

Jake Long? safest of all the picks, but is not projected to be that dominant tackle.

Gholston took plays off, sometimes games.

    See what I did there?

Didn't really like this draft show... no insight whatsoever and the only real piece of information they said was how the Jets have lacked an explosive Offensive player in a while, 10 years I think they said. Coles, Moss, C-mart (maybe not explosive but a great player), Keyshawn, hell Pennington was looking to be great before he got multiple arm surgeries. What because we never had TO, Randy Moss or LT we never had an explosive/real good player on the Oside of things... screw ESPN I am starting to realize how bad their football coverage actually is.

We haven't had an explosive player since Joe Namath. Wesley Walker was kind of one...in spurts. But seriously, I honestly can't think of one.
