Strictly hypothetical, but say we do trade down and get Dallas' 2 1st rd picks and something else (3rd rder?) who do you want at #22 and #28?
We need a WR and a CB. Limas Sweed, Devin Thomas, Malcolm Kelly or the best CB available. Groves would also be perfect.
#22 OT G. Cherilus - We have a decent starting Oline but this pick would improve it, moving Woody to RG and provide solid depth/flexibility in case someone goes down. #28 DE/OLB Q. Groves - Much needed OLB opposite Pace. Provides depth at OLB which we don't have. I know you only asked for picks 22 & 28 but... And taking a WR at 36 (I'd be exstatic if Hardy fell to us)
Hehe don't you love this time of year? We have NOTHING to talk about . I don't even know if he fits a 3-4 scheme but I'd like us to get Calais Campbell just because I met him being from the U and all. Such a homer.
Solid Yes and yes. Although based on the latest rumors which have Groves going to Pittsburgh at 23, I'd say we would have to go Groves then Sweed. And if Sweed is gone by 28, look for CB, RB or O-line in that order.
Yeah, I like your thinking. Picking-up an OL, particulary someone like Branden Albert would make the OL dominant and deep. Even if Woody doesn't start, he can back-up three positions including center. The only thing that I would do differently is probably pick-up Groves with the 22nd pick since there will be fewer options for edge rushers than OLinemen at that point of the draft. Also, I wouldn't tunr a blind eye to the possibility that Groves may be gone by then. This scenario also significantly impact what we can do with our second rounder. We can certainly go BPA at the WR and CB spot. But what may be more intriguing is having Stewart available at that spot. Yes this is indeed the most delicious sounding scenario if it ever happens.
Cornerback is the first pick if we trade down. A pass rushing OLB, an O-lineman, a wide receiver, or a running back would all be back-ups, no matter who they are. If our first pick is Cornerback, he starts opposite Revis from the get go. Besides, Eric Mangini has shown that he knows DB's. I always believe in drafting NOT the BPA, NOT the team need, but the position with which the head coach has the most experience. (If you can afford to, obviously, which we can). It just so happens that if we pick up a corner at 22, we could likely get the BPA, the team need and Mangini's protege all in one pick.
"The only thing that I would do differently is probably pick-up Groves with the 22nd pick since there will be fewer options for edge rushers than OLinemen at that point of the draft" I hear you, no OLB/DE to pick if Groves is gone at 28. Versus OT if/when Cherilus is gone at 28, there's still the likelyhood of Nicks, Baker being around.
If this trade does happen, which I still think is unlikely at best, I would bet money that one of the picks is Flacco.
Yeah...I have this idea that if we do trade down, it will be for a mix of: WR, RT, and OLB, with a steal at RB substituted for any of those. Ideal longshot: We get a 4 for D-slob...package it with another 4 and trade back into the 3rd, then use that pick to take a fallen Stewart at RB.
i think you'd have to look at some combination of CB and WR with those two first rounders. maybe sweed/cason, thomas/jenkins, jenkins/hardy... who knows, there are a ton of scenarios. then we'd be in position to take BAP at 36, perhaps flacco, groves, balmer... whoever falls, and you know someone will fall.
Any trade Dallas does with a 3-4 team is going to involve Akin Ayodele, which means less in pick value.
Seen the kid play for the past two seasons every game. He's gunna be a great QB and is def worth a late first or early second round pick.
22) Limas Sweed 28) Aqib Talib 36) James Lofton or 22) Mike Jenkins 28) Quentin Groves 36) Malcolm Kelly I would LOVE either of those drafts, can't decide which I'd rather have.
