I think Todd McShay and Mel Kiper should stick to scouting college players. They barely get that part right.

on the flip side, we could be one DEFENSIVE player away from making the playoffs.

    Let's talk after game 11.

Prognostications in early April are what guys who get paid to talk about football come up with to get their next check.

    They don't mean anything.

i still rather hear them say good things about us rather than bad things about us, i know that being talked about in a good way doesnt wins games, but its still nice to hear

  7. They may acctually be right. If Jenkins works out at NT, Pace lives up to his billing, and the platoon at # 2 CB hold up the defense looks good...and we are one true home hitter on offense away from at least being a wildcard type team.

I think our offense can take the next step if we can just get one guy who can take it to the house on any given play. I have alot of confidence in Mangold, Brick, and even Clemens development heading into next year.

Are we ready to compeete for a super bowl? No. We need 2 more drafts and years of development before that takes place...but i do believe w/ these moves we have taken a step forward.

We should be a playoff team. We were two years ago and have only improved since then. If we don't make it this year fire them all! Jones, Revis, Harris, Faneca, Pace, Woody, Richardson, Jenkins and we have the #6 pick in the draft..hell if we don't make it now I'm serious about firing all those idiots. Compare this team to the one that made the playoffs two years ago.

ok, let's get this straight. McShay did not say that exactly. It was on NFL Live yesterday and the host asked both McShay and Kiper. Which team may be one draft pick away from possibly making the playoffs. And McShay's pick was the jets, citing their moves in free agency. He said that if the jets can get McFadden he would add a ton of speed to the offense and a home run hitter that the jets don't have. He did not say that they are one OFFENSIVE player from the draft necessarily, nor did he predict the playoffs for them. Kiper picked the Texans.

One offensive player? I could go with that if it were Peyton Manning or Tom Brady.

its funny how once you establish an offensive line, the players at skill positions start making plays. lets see how our rebuilt line holds up... then you can start talking about how many "playmakers" we need.

I heard from another source that if we outscore the other team every game, then we make the playoffs.

The likely playoff teams in the AFC next season:

    Patriots
    Steelers
    Colts
    Jaguars
    Titans
Somebody has to make it from the west.

I know that would mean 5 of 6 teams that made the playoffs last season doing it again and so we can count on at least one change, but I see a large number of teams in the AFC that are just clearly more talented than the Jets, by 2+ star players in most cases.

If the Jets do pull out a playoff spot next season it will be testament to the new regime's ability to win with a subpar hand. I expect 6 to 8 wins though.

    Jil,

I'm in your boat. I want to see a defense heavy draft. We spent big money on our offense this off-season, and with two healthy wide outs and better game planning(for instance, possibly, more than FIVE touches a game for Leon Washington) I think it will be good enough to help us compete. Get rid of the Brad Smith option. Spend a mid round pick on a QB and cut the crap already. Let's see what this Stuckey kid can do. And again, because I can't emphasize it enough, get LEON the ball.

I think a lot of people are disregarding how bad our safety position and inside linebacker spots are. Imagine how good we'd be if we were to add another young, athletically superb corner across from Revis. Discard Barton and replace him with a young thumper. On the line, Ellis is aging and Coleman is nothing more than league average. We have good depth with Pouha and Moseley but Robertson is on his way out. We need help!

75% of the league is a potential wild card. There are a handfull of really good teams and really bad teams the rest of the league is a mediocre pack capable of 6 to 10 wins and a complicated tie breaker that gets them in to the playoffs.

I think regardless of who we pick, we're bound to at least make a Wildcard spot. After all, we got the easy schedule going for us just like 2 years ago and look at how far we made it in.

Now, the correct question would be what pick would make us a CONSISTENT Playoff team, then I'd have to agree with VickBlows. Unless we get a clear shot at drafting a QB with the likes of Peyton Manning, Big Ben, Palmer then I'd say we are an offensive player away from CONSISTENTLY making the Playoffs. Tom Brady is a little tough to vouch for since he was a 6th round compensatory pick, but if we were to find a player of his caliber, that would be the key offensive player in my book to get us consistently to the Playoffs.

First of all , I get sick in my head every time I hear one of the analsyst say any team is one player away . We havent even taken the feild yet. Its not a garantee that we will get production from any side of the ball. I have a lot more confidence in the defensive side then the offensive side at this point. Lets get a couple of game under our belts before we crown anyone!

It's all speculation. I think Faneca will be fine. I think Jenkins will be fine as well but his weight could come into play at some point. The big risk will be the Lb that had one good year that we paid on potential and the benched O-lineman. At the end of the day we will have to wait and see.

At this point, it is impossible to argue with your logic. Jets are off a 4-12 season, both of the QB's were dismal.

Ask yourself this though. This time last year, did you think the Giants had a chance to win the Super Bowl? I sure didn't. Four games into the season I didn't think they had a chance to make the playoffs.

In the NFL if a team has a chance to make the playoffs, it has a chance to win it all. I always have hope this time of year. This year more then most. I like most of the moves they have made in the offseason, and think the draft will bring more good players.

Why not the Jets? I'll believe at least until October.
