At 6'2" DMC would make an awesome option at WR/RB. With his speed he has the talent to go deep or run the ball. Could really revoulutionize the game as a combo RB/WR he would be a perfect fit. We have a great running back tandem in Thomas Jones and Leon. When they are on the field and you got DMC LC Cotch and Baker/Franks and someone like James Hardy /drool. can you say weapons?.....thoughts?

I have said for a long time now that DMC is not just a RB. He does it all on offense: Run, Catch, Throw and even can block.

We can afford to draft a RB at 6 overall because we can put he and TJ on the field at the same time.

Put both of them in the back field at the same time...

    Put DMC in the slot...

Have DMC go in motion from the backfield to the outside...

The options are limitless and that is why we can't afford to pass him up if he is available.

McFadden will likely be most effective in an offensive scheme that uses him in the most creative ways possible rather than just as a RB. He should definitely be able to split out wide as he has the size, speed, and hands to do so.

He's better suited as a WR than a RB so why not. He's not going to be able to get into open spaces in the NFL like he does in college comming out of the backfield, he's probably going to have better numbers in the slot than behind the QB.

So we're going to take a high first round pick and place the guy in a new, unproven position? Brilliant...

haha..yeah, my thoughts exactly. One of the best RB prospects to come out in 10 years and we change his position. Brilliant is right.

Aren't we already doing this with Brad Smith? Don't you see how long it takes a player to really learn a new position? It a lot mor than merely lining him up wide and sending him out. Running precise patterns, reading the secondary, taking hard hits while trying to catch the ball....

who said anything about changing his position? I believe the OP said he'd be a great combo player.

and it's not like WR is unfamiliar to him; he split out wide and ran deep routes occasionally at Arkansas.

the point is, a team could use him as BOTH, not completely change his position to WR.

If I'm going to pay very good money to a RB, the 6th highest paid guy in that draft class, I'd want him to play every down at that position.

Hybrid or gadget type players on O don't get taken so high in the draft.

if a team uses him like the Eagles use Westbrook, then i think he's worth it. the difference is, McFadden is bigger, stronger, and faster than Westbrook, which can create serious mismatches if he lines up wide.

all the while, he can still play RB.

i just don't see the logic of "well, if i'm spending the 6th pick on a RB, he has to play RB and RB only."

isn't the point of all of this to win? and one of the ways you do that is by scoring points. if McFadden has the ability to score from anywhere on the field, including a position other than RB, then i believe he's worth it.

Has anyone of you that bash DMC actually seen him in action(excluding highlight reels)? He changes the dynamics of a game. He can line up as the QB, behind the QB, or as a WR.

How much money did we throw at him as a 4th round pick?

Yes, and yes he does. The only thing that concerns me is the style of offense they ran in college....... about as far from the NFL as you get.

    Still, "you can't teach speed"
His build (legs) doesn't look like the prototypical RB, but his game did remind of Eric Dickerson.

He was the offense. Everything centered around him.

Exactly. How much of an upgrade would D-Mac really be over Leon?

I'd rather take a dominant pass rusher instead. RB's grow on trees.

If we do draft DMac, he will be best used in the slot because then the defense still must gaurd against the run. His speed will definitely open up the deep passing game.

One can't rule ouot the WR position for DMac at times because it always brings a reverse into play, but I do not think that will be the ultimate success of how DMac integrates into the team.

  20. Drafting DMAC achieves alot of things for us....

    1. He gives us the best overall talent in the entire draft.

    2. He adds an element of speed/athleticism the team does not currently have

    3. He adds depth/competition to the RB position

    4. He adds flexbility/creativity to the offensive playbook wherein he line up in the slot, behindd the qb, or even in a few situations AT QB.

It's hard to argue w/ any of this. But many will.
