I like Lawson because he gives me the impression that he could play on his feet or in a 3 point stance similar to Willie McGinest. I still really like Carpenter though
I know they both have great potential and upside. I'm at a stalemate, I need more opinions before I can make a sound judgement on one guy or the other. Hell they probably will make great pros.
Carpenter is tougher and more physical, but Lawson has more athleticism and big play ability. Take your pick.
Did you ever see or hear of any of those players before all these big boards came out. I dont think so
We all pretty much knew Bobby Carpenter since he was alongside AJ Hawk... I will admit I didn't know Manny Lawson...Knew Mario Williams though, but who doesn't?
I did, being the OSU football fan that i am. Bobby Carpenter is very athletic OLB, and he reallt steps it up to the next level in bigger games, like he did against Michigan. I'd take Carpenter over Lawson.
Does Lawson have an injury problem? I don't think he did but I wasn't sure. I know Carpenter had a broke leg, were there anymore more injuries though.
I like Lawson a lot better because he can pash rush and we need to replace some of the sacks we lost when we traded Abe. Also most 3-4 teams have at least one 3-4 LB who gets sacks.
I wouldn't be opposed to developing Lawson, but there is a risk factor. Yes, he's a great athlete, but he's never played linebacker. He's been a pass rusher defensive end. At the same time, Carpenter was never really a full time pass rusher being blocked on every play. So as Kurt said, take your pick.
Lawson, LB? Pros: ATHLETIC, has seen time at both DE and OLB, amazing speed and athleticism for the position, very quick off the bal; great pass rusher with long reach. Cons: Tweener at both DE or OLB, could add some weight, not very strong, needs to get better against the run, overshadowed by Mario Williams. Draft Exchange Analysis: While he may be overshadowed by fellow standout DE Mario Williams, Manny Lawson is something special in his own right. He is incredibly fast (runs a 4.4) and has great size at 6?5? 245 lbs. While Many think that Mario is a better sack artist, Lawson actually lead the team in 2004 with 7 sacks. He has had an equally productive senior season amassing 70 tackles (20 for a loss), with 10 sacks, 21 QB pressures, 1 FF, and a Punt Block. While this may seem too good to be true, Lawson does have his flaws like everyone else. He falls into the Tweener category and would be well suited as a 3-4 OLB. He also could stand to add some weight to his lanky frame and needs to get better against the run. If he can accomplish those things, look for Lawson to be a best in the pros like his Mario. One Word To Describe Lawson: Athletic / Overshadowed Most Like: Jason Taylor, Miami Dolphins He's played both DE and LB, and excelled at both positions.
Yes, but the fact that he has never played it, and outside linebackers do need to drop in coverage at times (even DeMarcus Ware does it) may be a bit difficult for him. I'm not saying Carpenter will project better, because for a team like us Lawson is a better idea, since we have time. It doesn't really matter though, because he isn't leaving the top sixteen picks in the draft.
I know I should check all the boards but where do the three LB's go in the draft and are we in a position to pick up on later in the first round instead of Williams at #4
Honestly I think Carpenter would have more of a spark for that than Lawson. I just don't see it in him.
