Ready for some retardation??? From Ross Tucker: Browns fans ridiculed my thought process. Wall Street financial analysts suggested I incorporate the Monte Carlo method. Multiple NFL scouts want to discuss the quantitative analysis of NFL players with me. Last week's article struck quite a chord with many readers. My thesis was simply that I do not believe the exorbitant amount given to a left guard like Alan Faneca is worth it in regards to the impact his performance will have on the win/loss column. If a team is going to pay a huge premium for the increase in performance that a good player delivers over an average one, that player should play a position that has a greater opportunity to significantly impact the outcome of a game. In order to clarify my beliefs regarding the salary structure among offensive linemen, I decided to list in order the positions among the front five that I feel are most worthy of receiving big money. Having played all five positions at different points in my career, and starting at least four games at all three interior spots, I am uniquely qualified to assess the difficulties associated with playing these positions. The bold part makes me angry.
He's an idiot -- the amount of money a team is willing to pay is a function of their situation they want to put him in to improve or alleviate, plus the market they have to compete with to acquire him. Alan Faneca was acquired against two other bidders. He stands a good chance to provide a major mentoring function for Mangold and DBrick. Faneca will also provide a competent replacement for the OG incompetents of 07. I am sure each of Tucker's situations in the NFL were just as specific and different from that of Faneca.
1. He's entitled to his opinion. That's what this coutry is so great about, no? 2. Then, how many rings has he won? None? 3. How many times did he go to Pro Bowl? None? 4. Was he ever considered elite player of his class? No? I rest my case.
Why does any of this matter? If you know football, you know football. How many HC's won rings as players? How many were Pro Bowlers? How many were elite players at their position? He's just an idiot...
Are only elite players qualified to comment on football? This board would be very quiet if that was the case.
Having eaten at a moderately-priced Italian restaurant several times, tasting all four antipastas at least once, I am uniquely qualified to asses the quality of the ingredients as well as the salary of the chef.
Shannon Sharpe and Michael Irvin both have handsful of SB rings, and neither of them can speak a coherent sentence. There is such a thing as a stupid football player.
Ross Tucker is trying to make a living outside of the lines in the business of football expert which there are too many and too few who really know that much...but in trying to carve his niche ,he is trying to be a little controversial in order to get attention..Who seriously gives a flyin f**k what this guy thinks..really.
a great offensive line can have a big impact on the game by giving the QB time to throw, and the RB holes to run through. we can only hope our offensive line open holes for TJ, and LW, the size of the one in tuckers head!
True, there is a such thing as a "stupid football player" that could actually win all the glory; they are called "exceptions" because of that, but I strongly doubt Ross Tucker qualifies as that "exception" that Shannon Sharpe and Michael Irvin are.
stupid football player absolutely, but an idiot with great football intelligence is a different story. Those two are great examples, and from the new reports after DMC's pro day- he is the next example. And i'm not a fan of his.
The guy's obviously got a chip on his shoulder from having been a fringe player. Fact is, in the article, he almost exclusively talks about the passing game, with very little about the running game. I would argue that 1. Interior running depends much MORE on the LG. You have the TE to help out on the right side, the LT has to contain on the left and the LG/C are the ones opening the hole. We ran much more to the right side last year because our LG sucked. 2. LG is still important in the passing game, more so than RG. Again, the right side often has the TE to help and the LG usually takes on the most talented DT on the other team. Fact is, there's a reason why Hutchinson is very valuable to Minnesota. He opens up holes! We want to be a smashmouth, play-action type offense and Faneca is exactly the type of player we need.
If Ross Tucker were talking about, say, FOOTBALL, I would listen. He's not talking about football, he's talking about contracts and the salary cap. Most players have little to do with the negotiations of their own contracts, if I'm going to listen to someone's 'expert opinion' they better have in-depth experience in that particular realm of knowledge.
What does making coherent statements & winning SBs have in common? If you had there money & could do whatever you wish would you still worry about coherent statements? They were hired to play FB not be an english professor.
Are you not aware that both of them are analysts hired to speak coherently about football? You are actually backing up my argument. A player can be great at the sport and not have an intelligent thing to say about his sport.
