Ding ding ding! if you have to reach, go for the best available WR. I wouldnt mind taking the top corner, but in a handful of years how do we re-up them both because if both are big time hits like we would hope, they will command serious money, which will be tied up in the same position. I think Sweed is going to be the best WR in the draft, and I think had his wrist not been hurt he would have been a top 10 pick this year, so I think he is definately justifiable at #6.
He decided to stay at UL for his senior year like an idiot, his brother is QB coach and I'm sure that had something to do with it. He thought they were going to be in the running for a national title. My Wildcats smoked them to lead off the season and they never recovered. Losing Petrino knocked them for a loop bigtime.
If Long is off the board I'm going McKelvin. I feel hes too good to pass up at 6. Call it a gut feeling but I think he's going to be another great Troy to NFL player. I would have said Harvey if the Jets have him high on their boards and up to par with McKelvin but on my board its Leodis McKelvin.
make me sick, I really hope that doesn't happen, it seems that 1-4 is a good place to be this year and then it is about the same from 5-9 with scheme playing heavily with value
you know they do the draft every year now... if you have 2 elite corners and have to let one of them go via free agency you could always draft another down the road.
For me its a toss up. BPA is the easy answer. That is most likely Ryan on many boards with that top 5. I would not be in love with picking a QB, but not entirely against it. I'd say no to a RB. They are too easily found to tie that much cap space up in a guy that could be had later. Any of a OLB, WR, CB, or DE would fill a need spot for us.
I think that if Matt Ryan falls to #6 the Tangini duo could have more leverage to trade down. At a minimum the Bears (14), and possibly even the Lions (15), would want to move up to take Ryan. Why would they be motivated to trade up for Ryan? Because the Jets have a need for QB and so do the Ravens at #8 so the chances of him dropping to 14 are pretty slim. If we could trade down to 14 or 15 and get some additional picks in round 2 or 3 it would be our best move. In the 14-15 range we could probably land Chris Williams, Derrick Harvey, or Mike Jenkins, all of whom could contribute immediately, whereas Matt Ryan is at least a year away (optimistically).
The best player left in that scenario is Ellis...who is so technically sound, and brings sucha unqieu skillset to the table...we could most def. find a place for him in the 3-4 long term and short term.
Man that is rough Jabba.......and not unlikely. With a #6 pick, you want an impact player, or at the least solid value. That said, i think the best value is Ellis. I hope the CS is looking into how Ellis's value could potentially translate into their defensive plans. If they do not think Ellis would fit well, Mendenhall offers the most impact, and is only a slight reach on value. I'm not sold on a WR or CB at the 6th pick, unless their talent clearly separates them from the pack. Matt Ryan is interesting, but would be quite a high stakes gamble for this team at that spot. Let's hope Gholston drops, or someone wants Ellis or Ryan enough to move up!
