This is right on. We can speculate about the impact Pedro had on future signings etc but how has the contract really hurt the team? If the Mets couldn't make a deal for Santana this off season I could see complaining about Pedro's contract. Otherwise, who cares? A position player with a bad contract is much more harmful to the team. Look at Delgado, he's untradeable, they can't sit him because he's making too much money and hence they can't bring anyone in to replace him even though he's terrible.
Pedro getting hurt is really about as shocking as Moises Alou or Carlos Delgado getting hurt. Maine/Perez need to be, for lack of a better word...amazin'. Pelfry can hopefully surprise everyone. In the obvious end, we're making another trade for another pitcher
Brian Bannister with 7 innings of 2 hit shutout ball today(Against the Tigers). At least we have Burgos!
First time to get on since last night... someone explain to me why Feliciano or Wagner are not pitching that 10th inning? Especially on the road in extra innings you need to throw your best guys out there in order to keep the tie.
told ya told ya told ya blah blah blah he made one bad pitch after looking impressing the two batters before.
Really, he sailed through the first two batters, but you leave a change-up up high, you're giving up a homerun most of the time. That ball was crushed by a guy who is the opposite of a power hitter.
There was also a great article about Bannister linked a few weeks ago on FJM. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_ylt=Alu7nB73f2XguyNy.NaSqzypu7YF?slug=jp-springbannister030808&prov=yhoo&type=lgns I'm not sure I've ever seen a professional athlete come across as intelligent, self aware or reasonable as Bannister does in this article. Pretty painful to read, like the Manny Acta interviews after the Nats hired him.
This is more painful, as I'm not sure we could've done anything about Acta. A win tonight would be great for my state of mind...
