I have no idea what's going on with the physical, but it sounds like neither the Broncos nor the Jets are the ones standing in the way of making this deal happen.

Sounds like the elephant in the ointment is Robertson himself, who is probably not giving squat in the way of contract concessions.

    Bingo

There is no such thing in the NFL as failing a physical. This isn't boxing where the State Athletic Commission steps in and says says this guy is unfit to play.

If there were Zack Thomas would not be playing football this year. If a team is willing to take a risk and pay a guy with bad knees, he plays.

The hold up is Robertson. I don't blame him. He is scheduled to make in the area of 10 million dollars this year. He is going to take the attitude pay me, or cut me.

Why should he negotiate with one team, when he can negotiate with 31? The guy has maybe 3 years left, I hope he agrees to a deal so the Jets get something for him, but if I were him I wouldn't agree.

Why should he? Is Denver going to give him less as a FA?

Denver will give him less as a FA because if cut he won't look to be worth as much. With the trade, there is value there that his side can use as leverage to gain more money.

The trade is the best win-win-win situation for everyone. We get a pick, DRob gets a decent contract, Denver gets their DT.

What would DRob receive in the way of compensation if we were to cut him, is it zilch or would he receive a part of his scheduled salary?

Also, what kind of cap hit would we be looking at if that happened?

I don't care what we get for him, as long as his cap hit is gone.

He would get whats guaranteed to him. Not sure about that number.

I think he is about $4M against our cap if we cut him.

    Broncos Still Interested in Robertson.

    Found this on ESPN:

    http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3322848

The Denver Broncos' interest in lame duck Jets defensive tackle Dewayne Robertson is not dead.

    Robertson
Sources told ESPN.com on Monday that the Broncos are still considering trading for Robertson even after they gave him a physical and had some concerns about his knee.

The New York Jets had agreed to send Robertson to Cincinnati on the first weekend of the NFL trading period for fourth- and fifth-round picks but because of a knee issue he didn't pass the Bengals' physical.

Denver has since checked him out. The team was close to trading for him in mid-March but talks stalled when the team suddenly fired general manager Ted Sundquist on March 12. Sundquist was the point man in the talks with the Jets. However, with Sundquist now out of the picture and with Denver still needing a force in the middle of its young front four, it has reconsidered making a deal for Robertson, a talented player who doesn't fit in the Jets' 3-4 scheme.

Still, finalizing a deal will be difficult for Denver, which would make Robertson an anchor of the line. Robertson's contract will have to be restructured and the team has been in on- and off-again talks with his agent, Hadley Engelhard, for several weeks. Robertson is due a $3 million bonus in June and has salary cap number of about $11 million for this season. Thus, Denver would have to redo the deal to make it fiscally worthwhile, especially with the Broncos in a cost-conscious mode this offseason.

Robertson, 26, was the No. 4 overall draft pick in the 2003 draft out of Kentucky. He had 57 tackles for the Jets last season.

Broncos wouldn't get anything special though.

We'd get a good part of our payroll back however.

If Denver is cash strapped, doesn't it make more sense to give us a relatively higher pick in the draft to avoid taking the double hit of signing DRob in the spot of a relatively cheap draft pick? If they give us a 6, and pay DRob north of what they'd pay their 6, that's getting upside down in my book.

I'm not foolish enough to think they want to give away the farm given our weekened bargaining position, but it does beg the question.

Drob can be a quality back up. But his cap is massive. He will remain a JET only if he restructures his contract. Otherwise, he is on the trading block already. He has nowhere to go. He will NEVER see the money he is scheduled to make in 08, with or without the JETS.
