I am asking this question because our LB crew is not very strong at this point with no quality depth and Barton playing barely decently. I have rewatched several games (tivo is the shit) and Barton was the most unimpressive player on our D aside from the D-line. Sure he made tackles but he would give up a lot of yards in the process. Does anyone know why we haven't tried Hobson at ILB? I'm sure the front office sees him as expendable now that we have Pace but I am worried about depth at both OLB and ILB positions. We don't have a 3rd round pick this year and all of the LB prospects are best valued mid 2nd round to late 3rd round so chances are we may not pick one up. I'm sure Hobson could be signed for cheap and we could have some great depth at the LB positions.
If Hobson was a good player, someone else would've signed him already. There's a reason why he' not on this team.
Marcus Howard is a very interest OLB prospect from the UGA. Perhaps he will be available. Check out his performance in the Sugar Bowl (MVP). I think it is very interesting that a lot of teams are going to little schools' Pro Days, like Carson Newman, and Georgia Southern, and San Diego State. The key to the draft is taking what comes to you, but you have to have done your homework so you know what's out there. Don't think that the NYJ are not turning over every rock they can find. There's a long way to go before training camp.
San Diego State isn't a "little" school. They are in a mid-major conference, but at least it's a I-A school. Marshall Faulk went to San Diego State. He's one of the best running backs of this era. Georgia Southern is usually a pretty dominant I-AA school, so they must have some pretty talented players. I have no idea why any scout would travel to Carson-Newman though.
So beacause Marshall Faulk went to San Diego State, that makes it a big school? l. It is definately not an Ohio State, Michigan, Florida, Miami, LSU etc.Yes you can get great or good players from San Diego state, Tennesses State, Howard etc, Owens, Jerry Rice, Antione Bethea etc are all good players from smaller colleges or colleges which are not household names when it comes to most fans.
If a college plays Division I-A football...it's not considered a small school. I don't care if you haven't heard of it before. LSU has about 32,000 students. You wanna know how many SD State has? Around 34,500. Don't ever try to call me out again. I will rip you a new one EVERY time.
"Small school" in terms of the concept being discussed here has nothing to do with population or student body population to be precise.Small school being discussed here has more to to with the traditional powerhouse schools who everybody knows about.Thats for you DUMMY!!! As far as ripping me a new one, I will like to see you try.
Hobson was a Herm, Bradway pick. I didn't like the pick when it happened and he never really payed that well in either D. If he did, he would have a job by now.
Hobson , Just like Vilma was a casualty of our CS's stubborness and our lack of a D-Line. It was just in 2k6 where he had 100 tackles and 6 Sacks. Let's see if we get those Numbers with his replacement even though we should now that we have a friggin NT.
It's OK- we have Chatham and Kassell- or at least one of those two is still around. All will be well.
Something tells me Hobson will be on the Jets roster by the first game of the season playing for the league minimum or not much more.
I think this is probably the case, too. But this will also apply to Barton as well. We need depth, albiet mediocre depth. My main problem with both these guys -- Hobson and Barton -- is that they aren't the quickest of foot these days. Did I mention that Marcus Howard ran a 4.48 forty in the combine...? I think he also did 27 225 Lb reps as well...
I played SS for SDSU and yes we had Marshall Faulk but we also played good schools like ASU, BYU, TCU, and others. SDSU is no slouch
I think we've created a position of need at inside linebacker, and I'm not comfortable starting the season with either Chatham or Cassel on the inside. I think both are terrible. We may have to address that spot earlier than we want to on draft day. It should be noted that many scouts viewed Hobson as an inside 'backer coming out of Michigan because of his incredibly strong hands and his ability to shed blocks. I think he's a good guy who if anything, will provide quality depth and I hope, seeing that the market for him seems to be bare, that they bring him back and give him a shot to start inside. -X-
