yays! no more drama, well outside the rhodes extension but that really isn't much of a worry. At worst he'll get franchised.

I still wish we just traded him. One or two years and his head will be nothing but mush. Injury prone players shouldnt get extensions and especially ones that bitch and go to the media. Rhodes should have been the guy they locked up first because he deserved it more both for his play and the way he has been handling himself with the media.

True I hope its heavily incentive laden in its latter years or cap friendly if we do have to cut him say in two or three years

I agree with this, I'm sure this regime protected themselves with this contract (clauses etc.)

As long as we can cut him after 2 more years without taking a big cap hit, which means they threw him some bonus $ now, I am cool with it. He is one tough SOB, he is one of our leaders and we do not want another Kendall deal. On the other side, he's a #2 and takes a beating so he's not going to last 3-4 years. I am not worried about Rhodes. I am sure he's going to be taken care of just like Jericho

The most important issue with Coles was the length of the contract not monetary, at least according to all published reports. He wants to retire a Jet. So I have a feeling it is going to be a cap-friendly incentive laden contract. I am going to withhold judgement until I see the final numbers.

The media should rightly call Coles' new contract the "Coles STFU Contract," because that's what this extortion-based extension is.

But whatever... I do like Coles on the field and do respect the man in general (monetary media-whining excluded). Let's move TF on from here. Get Rhodes to sign a contract now, so we know how much we have and where we're going with other signings.

Well at least that's done and over with. Now lets move on to Kerry Rhodes...and add a few years to Baker's deal too.

The Jets DID NOT GIVE IN to Coles. Good for them. They gave him exactly and only what they originally offered to do.

"The New York Jets have guaranteed the $11 million remaining on the final two years of receiver Laveranues Coles' contract, a league source said Friday.

Coles had been seeking a contract extension, but guaranteeing the remaining two years is an apparent compromise between the team and the receiver. Coles had been critical of the Jets earlier in the offseason for spending money on players from outside and not taking care of players already on the team."

If it is indeed true that this was never about money and truly only about retiring a Jet, AND if it's true that Tangini has been promising him not some huge payday, but an extension, I just might do a 180 and give Coles a pass on this one.

WOW, they didn't give him a damn dollar more!

I'm shocked to see him agree to that after making a big fuss over wanting security and all that jazz. Surprised to see us getting away with playing a little hardball for a change. Now on to Rhodes.....

Still, 11 million over 2 years is nothing to shake a stick at...everyone wins.

I agree. Coles always said he wanted to retire early, maybe 2 more years was all the security he needed? You know at the end they said something along the lines of "We gaurantee this money. If you stay injury free and produce, and if you want to play after 2 more years, we'll see what we can do."

Another good deal by the FO. I have to say Tannenbaum is impressing me. He is a very good GM, better than what we have had in a long time. You can understand why Parcells is so high on the guy.

So wait...we didn't do anything but guarantee what we already offered to...just WOW. Maybe LC just wanted to skip a week of camp? Either way, great to have this fearless on-field warrior back in the fold.

I can't wait to see what Kellen does with a healthy LC and Cotch in a full start (don't think that has actually happened yet). He could be a totally different QB.

I am glad. I think this is still very fair for both sides.

I'm glad that it's over and think that he can still be an asset to this team.

That being said, he'll always be a whiney little bitch who is one or two good hits away from having his career ended.
