Why these RBs when we can get a RB better than all of them in the 4th round? And on a sidenote, what happened with Chris Baker wanting a contract extension?
i would not want to pay alot of money in signing RunDMC after drafting him, mostly cuz we don't really have a glaring need for a running back... I would much rather trade down and take Quentin Groves or a CB
1. As good as this RB class is, that's hardly a guarantee 2. Signing a RB can allow to you to get use a 4th rounder to help bolster depth somewhere else
Fuck Musa Smith. We should not even be talking to him out of principle. I have disliked him from his college days. http://www.sptimes.com/2002/09/05/Sports/Around_the_nation.shtml
Leodis McKelvin, the CB from Troy, is a much better draft than McFadden; he can help our defense, and we already have two great running backs that are waiting until there are some holes blown open by the OL that they can take advantage of. If we didn't have good running backs, then maybe you would have a point in drafting a RB. But that is not the case. As it is, if we got a Musa Smith (whose faster and almost as tough a runner as Chatman) or Jesse Chatman, then we would have another 'weapon of punishment' to mess up the defense with -- especially in the fourth quarter. The NYJ has to win in the trenches before their skill players have a chance to do their thing. I think that all the people (and Cannazaro of the NYP included) that dwell on how badly the NYJ skill players performed last year are ignorant: Adjust your criticism to wait until they underperform with a sterling OL that pass blocks well and run blocks well. Then the underperformance can be ridiculed and lambasted to the fan heart's content. It is very distorted to monitor a QB's or RB's play when they are being continuously sabotaged by an OL that is not doing its job as in 07. In many ways, I blame the OL for the losses, while I give credit to the defense for hanging in there as well as they did, without getting any rest from the offense getting continuously blown off the field.
I agree, Both McKelvin and Gholston make a lot more sense for us to take at 6 than McFadden. I almost think McKelvin might be a better pick- We would have two shutdown corners which will enable us to frequently blitz (offset the lack of a Gholston type) and he could return punts- McKelvin returning punts and Washington and Miller returning Kickoffs- We would dominate the field position game
no! no way do the jets want this (slaton) guy. NOT a "tough" runner. racked up good stats due to his speed and the system. i do not expect him to excel at the NFL level
mcfadden? WTF. we have jones washington, chatman, richardson, would we have room for mcfadden? NO we dont. we need to draft defense, secondly offense. primarily linebacker/lineman.
I am going to be very angry if the Jets select McFadden. He is a home run threat but he is not a sure fire player, certainly doesn't look like he will ever become a franchise player, and the Jets desperately need top flight playmakers at position other than RB. This is the WPA.
Yeah I Couldn't Agree More. theres alot of running backs in the draft that the Jets could take later if they traded down from six. Ideally 1. Rashard Mendenhall, Illinois...a possible amazing franchise guy..great athleticism and strength 2.Jonathan Stewart, Oregon..A strong quick back that can break a big one 3. Ray Rice, Rutgers...could be a really good franchise back 4. Chris Johnson, East Carolina ...great great speed, maybe the fastest ive seen 5. Felix Jones, Arkansas....McFaddens Co-Star I really think they can find someone else besides McFadden that would be better for the organization. Trading down if he falls to them or draft and trade and they could address their defensive needs or WR. It just makes more sense.
There is nobody at the 6th pick worth a 6th pick but McFadden if he is there. Gholston isn't if you listen to the scouts. That's just another reason the Jets will take McFadden. They won't be able to trade down because everybody else in the league also knows there isn't anyone worth trading up for at that point.
I like McKelvin too but there is no way in the world the Jets will draft another CB in the first round this year. For one thing they would have to pay him a lot more then they paid Revis and with that mess last year they just won't do it again so soon.
Actually, if one really starts to look at what the Jets have done in FA, it seems pretty clear McFadden is their unlikely choice. The Jets strategy has been to take what we have at RB and make it better. I think they did that; or at least gave it all they had. I think their clear choice or favored choice will be a defensive player: Probably Ghoulston if he's there, the CB McKelvin, one of the Long's, or even somebody we haven't thouight of yet; they are also well positioned to trade down. Believe it or not when you start to look at the bucks it would take to sign McFadden and one does have to factor in the baggage, as well as the guy does get tackled fairly easily, and I would not be surprised to see him fall much lower than anyone predicted; he could fall out of the top 10; not impossible at all.
I've read that McFadden is expected to drop due to his character concerns. Some say there's no reason for the Cowboys need to trade up since he'll be there anyway when they pick. My guess is that the Jets take C. Long, Gholston, J. Long or McKelvin (with an outside shot at Clady). McKelvin seems to be the one we're gonna go after since (A) We haven't addressed the other corner spot and (B) The Pats are dying for some DB's and it'd be nice to take the best CB on the board away from them.
Doesn't the fact that the Jets were so awful on offense last year argue in favor of going offense in the first round? Granted, other than Jake Long and Matt Ryan (who I would not draft), there does not appear to be anyone but McFadden worthy of a Top 6 pick. While I also like the idea of getting a really good DB to go with Revis, I also am intrigued by the possibility of adding a big OT to go on the opposite side of Ferguson (and move Woody to OG). I think a speedy WR is a big need, but only would address that in the first round if we trade down (and I would NOT trade our top pick for the Cowboys' two, late first rounders unless we also got the 'boys third round pick at a minimum).
