1-MIA- C. Long 2-STL-J. Long 3-ATL-Dorsey 4-OAK-Gholston 5-KC-Clady 6-Jets-McFadden. I would probably like to have Gholston but no doubt the Jet's need a homerun hitter
No Matt Ryan? Interesting. A lot of my friends are from Atlanta and they are going to throw a fit if they don't pick Ryan or McFadden.
MIA - C. Long STL - J. Long ATL - M. Ryan OAK - DMC KC - G. Dorsey NYJ -Gholston i hope we trade down but NE cant get Gholston, but if OAK takes DMC it may be a blessing
Miami - Chris Long St. Louis - Vernon Gholston Atlanta - Matt Ryan Oakland - DMC Kansas City - Jake Long NYJ - DRC? Leodis McKelvin? Phillip Merling? Kenny Philips? Who would you pick here???
1.Miami-C Long 2.St.Louis-Gholston 3.Atlanta-Ryan 4.Oakland-Jake Long 5.Kansas City-Dorsey 6.Dallas via NYJ-McFadden 7.New England-???
Little off topic but why would ATL fans be pissed if you passed on DMC? They just signed Turner, and they still have Norwood. Theyre backfield is a good 1-2 punch, and could turn electric if Turner still plays as well as he did in SD. They should be pissed if they don't take Ryan and Ellis, not DMC
MIA-Chris Long STL-Glenn Dorsey ATL-Ryan OAK-Gholston KC-J long NYJ-McFadden NE- Shithead Abcde (pronounced Shitea Absidu) Punter, New York State Mental Hospital
And there in lies the rub. We can't pass on McFadden and let NE take him. That would be a disaster and they surely would take him if he's there. Same with Golston if McFadden is already gone. We have to pick at 6 or trade up. We can't and won't trade down.
This is the only situation that really scares me. It seems like the Jets only have 5 legit guys who they could pick at number 6, and if those 5 are all taken in this scenario, it will be tough to get a stud at a need. I would try to trade down with a team that wanted a DT, but if not I guess you have to take McKelvin as the bpa other than the 4-3 DTs that we cannot take. The real bpa here would be Dorsey I think, and I wonder if we take a flier on him as the clear value pick and play around with our DE/DT rotation. I know everyone here thinks its dumb to take another Drob, but Dorsey was supposed to go number 1 not that long ago, and it always pisses me off how Mangini seems to cast aside talent just cuz of his system (see Vilma, maybe Drob)
I think the worst would be if the first four go: MIA - C. Long STL - J. Long ATL - M. Ryan OAK - DMC and then New England trades up two spots with KC to draft Gholston. That would really put me in a frenzy. Sneaker through the flat screen.
pender...the chiefs AND pats would love nothing more than to put the jets in a hole...... the jets have to watch the raiders very carefully and if they feel mcfadden is their pick the jets should EXPECT the pats to leapfrog the jets and take gholston...... i wonder if the jets might look at atlanta and perhaps think of switching spots. ryan will likely be on the board for them at 6. the only x factor are the rams - which way do they go. i think its unlikely they go gholston at 2, rather take the OT. jil
If it goes down like this and we aren't able to trade down, than I'd go with Philip Merling, the DE from Clemson. He's a fit at DE in the 3-4 and could be a great rotational guy to start. Shaun Ellis' play isn't at the same level it once was and he could be the best option here IMO to help out this defensive front even more.
Too much of a reach imo, we're trying to put ourselves in a position to take the BPA. There's no way Merling is that.
Who is the BPA if the draft went down the way I suggested? The best move would be a trade-down, but that's not always too likely. It would be down to: - Ryan Clady OT (Doubtful) - Philip Merling DE - Glenn Dorsey (system?) - Sedrick Ellis (system?) - Leodis McKelvin - Dominique Rogers Cromartie - Kenny Phillips - Quentin Groves This would be a bad scenario, but I'd go with Merling. He's underrated and would be worth the choice.
Why not trade down to draft good old Branden Albert, who is a bruising guard that could be very good on the right side.
Well that all depends on how you feel about guys like Mendenhall and Sweed. Not to mention, 3-4 De is a very hard position to project. And personally i don't feel Merling fits.
I thought about that the other day as well. This is a trade down draft for us. I'd feel better if we were picking 8th or 9th, although I love that we can screw with the Pats. When I look at this draft, if someone wants to grab the top CB, they have to talk to us.
