I hate this f'ing Pats homer.

    Thumbs down
? New York Jets -- The Jets seem to be getting credit for trying in free agency, but that's not necessarily always the right approach. Just ask a Redskins or 49ers fan. I sense a certain lack of rhyme or reason in New York's additions, as if the Jets aren't really sure who they are as a football team. Are they still right on the heels of the Patriots in the AFC East, as they appeared in 2006, or miles behind them, as was the case in 2007? How big a gap are they trying to close?

Many believe Kris Jenkins is an upgrade at nose tackle, but it's a different role for him compared to playing defensive tackle in a 4-3. I've got questions about how he'll adapt and how long he'll stay healthy. And while Alan Faneca and Damien Woody look like a huge improvement on paper, Woody shifting to right tackle this late in his career is a puzzler. Faneca, it must be noted, was part of a Steelers O-line that was the weakest link on the team. For that matter, the same was true of Woody in Detroit. For all the extra money he'll cost, will Faneca be a head-and-shoulder improvement at guard over the exiled Pete Kendall?

The Calvin Pace signing makes sense to me, because New York had no pass rush last season, and he could really help on that front. But I still think the Jets wasted Vilma's talents and wound up giving him away to New Orleans. Getting fullback Tony Richardson should also aid the chances of lead rusher Thomas Jones having a bounce-back second season in New York. Jones was a disappointment last season, but it likely had more to do with the Jets underachieving offensive line.

And then there's the karma factor. The Jets' spending spree in free agency seems to have ticked off some of their best players, top receiver Laveranues Coles among them. That could wind up being a bit counterproductive. Lost in the shuffle so far is another key point: Who's definitively the Jets' guy at quarterback: Kellen Clemens or Chad Pennington? Until that's resolved, it's hard to know exactly which direction New York is headed.

I can't believe he came up for air long enough to write all of that. And I can't believe he had the balls to mention the word 'karma' after the results of the Super Bowl.

    You beat me to it...

I hate King as much as the next Jet fan, but we look a little ridiculous killing him over a Don Banks article....

He makes shaun Rodgers out to be some great pick up by Cleveland then dogs the Jenkins pick up on the next page. Almost everyone in this board wanted Jenkins over Rodgers including myself.

Not to mention Rogers got $20+ mil guaranteed compared to $9.5 mil for Jenkins.

This is a completely assinine statement! Lack of rhyme or reason? Lets see, we run a 3-4 defense and don't have a true nose tackle. Hence, the signing of Kris Jenkins who is 6-4 350lbs, which would lead you to believe he can play nose tackle and occupy two blockers. We had a huge weakness at left guard, therefore we signed one of the best ones in the league in Alen Faneca. And we were starting Anthony Clement at right tackle, and Woody should be an upgrade over him. We're losing Victor Hobson so we signed Calvin Pace. This guy is a jack off!

I'm not sure he said anything all that bad until the last paragraph. I think most fans here would have a hard time disagreeing with what he said. I guess comparing Faneca to Kendall was a bit much but like I said in another thread, when you do that you also have to compare 1 million to 40 million and then see how far apart the two are.

"will Faneca be a head-and-shoulder improvement at guard over the exiled Pete Kendall?"

Is this guy serious??? Why wouldn't a 7 time Pro Bowler be an improvement? Faneca started in the Pro Bowl less than a month ago, but now he's not supposed to be much better than someone who at this point is a journeyman lineman?

I usually don't care about what the media says but this guy is so completely off the mark with his misrepresentations that it discredits magazine and website that he works for. Everyone else from CNNSI who has judged the Faneca signing has said it is a major upgrade for the Jets. That should tell you, and hopefully Banks' editors, what his opinion is worth.

We know Faneca is alot better but is he $22 mil better? It would have cost the Jets an extra mil last year but that turned into $23 for Faneca this year. I think we'd all rather have faneca but it is a fair question.

i wonder what this clown will have to say when we light up the Pats old-ass LB's for 125+ rushing yards/game next season?

It's not 1M to 40M. Kendall wanted an additional 1M to bring is total compensation to almost 3M. Faneca isn't being paid 40M, he's being paid about 8M per year. Kendall is almost shot while Faneca is still playing at a Pro Bowl starter level.

So it's 3M for Kendall and his declining average play for another year or 2 and then having to spend either a top 4 rd pick on his replacement or pay escalating FA money to a likely non Pro Bowl starter or 8M for a Pro Bowl starting caliber player for the next few years at least and getting a 4th or 5th rd pick for Kendall.

It's such a no-brainer that it seems extremely stupid to even talk about it.

For a current Pro Bowl starting player + a 4th or 5th rd pick?

    It's not even debatable.
