never have enough of these type guys he is considered the best cover special teams guy in the league. Period. If he contributes anywhere else its a bonus. We have some great special teams guys already and maybe area we can get the check mark on our side every week. I am beginning to really like nugent, love washington returning and have not heard miller is gonna be let go so assume he will be back and he is a powerful fast return guy.
Remember, we also have Cody Spencer as our ST LB who was on IR last year. If we sign this guy, that probably means Spencer is a goner.
A good ST Unit should always have an Assassin. Even if that player doesn't impact the team anywhere else, his contributions will be felt by everyone. Few things can pumps up a team better than seeing a punt or kick returner blow snot bubbles. Ayanbadejo seems to fit that role to the 'T' and we haven't had one of those since....? The guy consistently is down the field ahead of everyone else hits with an authoritative thump. My kind of ST Maniac.
No I don't think so. If anything the ST just got stronger. Just imagine Miller and Washington on KR, who do you kick to? Having either on PR isn't a treat for the opposing team either. Now deal with two lunatics coming down on the opposing team's KR/PR and......you get the picture. WHAM!
no he wants 1.5 mill a season we are gonna overpay him Pace is it I dont want them to go out and do this whole overpay for a no one again, just think draft from here
Earlier before this came out but it was known that he was going to visit he said he wanted a chance to start because he loved playing LB in the probowl instead of just ST. He said it felt like "football" instead of just "business" like it does when he plays ST. I hope we didn't guarantee him any real playing time. I don't know. There are less LBers in the nickel and dime than in a base D. Would he really be one out of the 3 or 2 LBers we leave in if we are in Nickel/Dime?
Funny you post this now however before last season when others were posting we had real stinky players such as the ones you gave the toilet bowl awards to you were right in there telling those posters they were way, way off base. Guess your FB evulations skills improved from last winter to this winter?
The only unfortunate part that I failed to mention in my original post was that Ayanbadejo wants to be a starter on defense to break away from the ST role. I agree that a special teams "assassin" as you put it, would be nice, but he doesn't want to play that role. So why bring him in?
Hopefully economics will determine the final outcome. If no one makes him an offer with a guaranteed starting position, then I surely hope that we're on the top of his list of options.
Note from Rotoworld- Free agent LB Brendon Ayanbadejo has narrowed his possible destinations to the Jets and Ravens. He'd been offered four-year deals by both clubs. He'll sign Thursday. He'd have a slightly better chance of playing defense in New York as an inside linebacker, though it'd only be as a reserve. Source: Chicago Sun Times Weve already been chosen over SF, Miami, STL- Might as well add Baltimore to the list.
Has there been any updates on this situation? It would be great if they could bring this guy in to spearhead the special teams attack. Our ST is already good but without Westhoff they will need more talent... being that this guy is supposedly the best in the league what more can you ask for? Also this may prompt us dumping that boob Chatham.
He signed with the Ravens. http://www.profootballtalk.com/rumormill.htm POSTED 10:21 a.m. EST, March 6, 2008 RAVENS LAND AYANBADEJO With linebacker/defensive end Terrell Suggs and his big-dollar franchise tag keeping the Ravens from being big players in free agency, they're at least doing something to get better. According to a league source, the Ravens have agreed to terms with special teams ace Brendon Ayanbadejo. It's a four-year, $4.9 million deal, with a $1.9 million signing bonus. Ayanbadejo is a linebacker on defense, and he became a solid special-teams contributor in Chicago.
