You don't know what you are talking about. Rhodes was a draftee, he will get paid. Coles is out of his friggin mind. He is another Pete Kendall in the making. Here's a look at Coles. Code: yr club Salary SB Other bonus total cap hit. 2007 Jets $ 3,000,000 $ 0 $ 0 $ 3,000,000 $ 4,000,000 2006 Jets $ 4,125,000 $ 0 $ 3,000,000 $ 6,000,000 $ 7,000,000 2005 Jets $ 1,000,000 $ 5,000,000 $ 0 $ 6,000,000 $ 2,000,000 2004 Redskins $ 535,000 $ 0 $ 3,300 $ 538,300 $ 2,395,442 2003 Redskins $ 525,000 $ 13,000,000 $ 2,700 $ 13,527,700 $ 2,384,842 So Coles has been averaging 5 Mil a year, since coming BACK in 2005! (and only slightly less than PACE is getting this in this FA year) 3 Years later, Randy Moss, the Best WR in the game, after a Record Setting single season, is getting 9. After Playing on a 1 year deal. The FO offered to GUARANTEE the remaining 11 mil on his deal (6 Mil, 5mil), and somehow he is underpaid and disrespected?????? IF Anything the message to the team is STOP giving players all their money up front, because they seem to think that what only counts is the paycheck they get this week....
Coles is probably within three years of being done ? or if Chad should somehow start three games this year?three games. He needs to cash in as much as he can to pay for his new shopping mall in Jacksonville.
I'm with ya on most of your posts, but you left out something in your haste to bury players and absolve management on this. The four players signed had a direct relationship to personnel moves made by this FO and CS. -Woody replaces Clement, who was brought in by THIS regime and sucked. -Faneca replaces Clarke, brought in by THIS regime to replace Kendall, who they didnt want to give a raise to. Clarke was worse than suck. -Jenkins replaces D-Rob, who was one of the square pegs in a round hole due to scheme change by this regime. -Pace could be a good addition if he and BT play on the sides they excel at. Would Pace have even been brought in if they didnt switch BT to the other side, where he didnt do well? I dunno.
All I stated was an opinion that Coles and Rhodes need to get paid. I'm not basing this on any facts or anything else, just an opinion. So for you to come out and say I don't know what I'm talking about is a little rash, don't you think? I see these guys circumstances, Coles specifically, and I sort of relate them to my own. I work for a company that is notorious for not paying its employees, yet giving an absurd amount of money to consultants to come in and do close to nothing. I have made my own attempts to get a raise to a level that is on average with most people doing the job I'm doing, but have been shot down repeatedly. Every time I have been shot down, it wasn't the kind of theing where the company came to me outright and said "no", but rather, they sang my praises, told me how excellent I was, and how if I wait until the next pay period they'll take care of me since I had to wait... and then, nothing. People are often offended by the amount of money that athletes make because they probably will never see that kind of money in their life time. Look at it from a players perspective though, they are working for a company where the owner is usually some fat greedy bastard who makes more money in one year than each player will ever see in their entire lifetime. These players bust their asses for the team and go through hell physically to endure the teams requirements, and then they are rewarded by getting to watch outsiders come in and get monster deals. Now, I only think Coles and Rhodes have done enough that they warrant the kinds of contracts that these FA are getting. I think the Jets overpaid for Calvin Pace. I'm not expecting a DeMarcus Ware or Dwight Freeney kind of experience from this guy, yet he's getting paid like it. If Calvin Pace can get that kind of money, then why can't Coles and Rhodes, relative to their positions? I know Coles is potentially an injury away from having his career ended, and Rhodes is still on a rookie contract. My gut feeling is that Coles will be fine. Again, all this is opinion, and nothing more. So please be a little more discriminate about who you decide to attack about not knowing what they are talking about.
More truth coming from WB. These guys should be saying how lucky they feel to still have jobs, rather than complain about other people being brought in. It's also pretty clear that Cimini has decided that he is going to run with the "Jets overpaid in free agency" angle as long as he possibly can. As other have noted, Rhodes is going nowhere in the short run, as he will surely get the franchise tag if he doesn't sign an extension.
Coles IS getting Pace like money. Dont you even take the time understand how the Pace deal is structured? Coles will make MORE money than Pace over the next two seasons. The difference, is Pace is getting a bonus this year. But the Pro Rata portion of that Bonus, plus his salary equates to 4.66, 4.66, 5.66 over the next three seasons. Remember his contract is 6 years. The bonus is 3.666 per, so the 10.5 mil on the last three years, plus those three years above is the 26 mil, he is colecting in the first 3 ytears of the contract.
Just another example of Cimini's unprofessional reporting. Every article he writes takes some sort of shot at the CS & FO. All because they don't cater to his every whim and request.
Its always been like this...Free agents come in and make more money than the guys already on the roster. Happens everyday, even in the corporate world no surprises here.
Coles is a clubhouse cancer waiting to happen! We should unload him now for whatever draft pick we can get! He will tear our offense apart if he is not happy!
If Pace is worth 22 million guaranteed what does that make Kerry Rhodes worth? 30 million guaranteed? 40?
Coles is an idiot just like Kendall. Don't sign a contract if you're unhappy with it. They want money up front, but then complain that their annual salary is too low. Coles, at best, has 2 more good years left. Giving him a raise or an extension would be insane.
The problem with Coles is his age and the worries about him getting hurt. Add his mess with the Qb controversy and we have serious issues if he is around. The Jets should have signed Rhodes when we had a chance. Now he is going to get some serious Cap hurting Money.
Coles is being a jackass. Rhodes will get paid. Like WB said, if our vets want to get paid more they should have played better.
Coles is an asshole and Rhodes will absolutely get his money...probably should have before free agency.
you go 4-12 and expect a raise? thats like me going to work, losing the company a few million dollars and then asking for a bonus. Rhodes is the only one who deserves it. just because coles is the best wr on this team doesnt mean hes not replaceable. far from it, as he is definitely not among the nfl's elite.
For once I agree with you, but I think it's on the coaches some too. You don't lose as many halftime leads as we did to not think the coaches were being out-adjusted at halftime.
