How do they play this guy at RT after only starting there for 5 games? He's 6'3! I hope there is another deal in place to unload Moore if possible even though they signed him to an extension last year. Or is Tangini being too smart for themselves again?

Woody is better suited for the "OL depth" guy, IMO. I'd rather take Long or Clady at #6 and have a really solid line.

I agree. Long on the right side would be excellent, or a real road grader like Otah. Woody would be great depth, but I don't see him as any upgrade over Clement.

  4. I'm hoping Woody IS just a "depth guy" or a guy for competition at RG...and we look at olivea at RT.

What exactly did Moore do to earn the demotion? Woody gives us quality depth with SB experience and some familiarity with the CS. Outside of that, pencilling him into the RG is a lateral move AT BEST.

Jets now eyeing former Detroit OL Woody
    Monday, Mar 3, 2008 7:32 am EST

Continuing their free-agent frenzy, the New Jets were deep into negotiations Sunday night with former Detroit Lions guard/tackle Damien Woody, according to an NFL source. Barring a snag, a deal could be reached Monday according to the New York Daily News.

Woody, 30, is projected as the starting right tackle, replacing Anthony Clement, but he never played the position until the final five games of last season. Between Woody and left guard Alan Faneca, whose five-year, $40 million contract will be announced today, the Jets have addressed the two weakest positions on their offensive line.

Listed at 6-3, 335, Woody, who made the Pro Bowl in 2002 with the Patriots, has battled a weight problem.

  7. Eek...at 6-3...there's no way hee survives 16+ games at RT.

at 6 ft 7 youd think clement was worth something lol.

i could care a less that hes 6 ft 3. sure hes better off as an interior lineman, thats not even debatable, but im sure hes better than clement

  9. On the surface, perhaps...

But keep in mind he's only played 5 games total in his entire career at RT. I have some serious reservations about this..

We haven't even signed him yet, have we? I want Shane Olivea, personally.

Why don't we play Woody at point guard...you don't need to be tall to be successful there.

...and you don't have to be a tower to be successful at right tackle either.

Remember we could start him at RT and still draft Carl Nicks in the second round and groom him. This draft is loaded with tackles.

If we are putting Woody at point guard, I say we sign Gary Payton instead.

He is still available and his veteran leadership can only help the O-line.

Not too many starting 6'3 RTs in the league.

He would br good for depth because he can play everything but LT, so i have no problem signing him.

I don't know if this has already been reported or not, but espn radio just said we signed Woody. I apologize if this is old news.
