I'll share some pro's and con's for all 3 options... 1. Damien Woody Pro's: Has succeeded at Center, guard and tackle. Knows Mangini very well from time w/ Patriots. Has super bowl experience, and the Patriots likely have interest. Con's: Is over the age of 30, and has only played a handful of games at RT, after being benched at RG. 2. Shane Olivea Pro's: Has been a very good RT for a team w/ decent playoff success. Our OC knows him very well, and he's still very young. Con's: Is not a run blocking anchor type that we need at RT. Got benched in SD by the end of last season 3. Maurice Williams Pro's: Like Olivea, has been a very good RT for a team w/ decent playoff success. Is very physical in the running game and is a solid pass protector. Is still in his prime. Con's: Our CS is not as familar w/ him, andof the 3 could have the highest price tag.
I like Williams the most. However, I would not at all be disappointed with any of these guys, as long as we nab one of them.
yea williams is a great run blocker and would fit in nicely with our run first philosophy, he would continue to add beef to an undersized line, something the FO has started to address with the signings of faneca and jenkins
I think Woody is probably the most reasonable option. Olivea is average against the run and was benched last year, Williams is inconsistent to say the least in the passing game. Woody is the more solid player, neither is a weakness for him. If Williams can be more consistent as a pass protector, then it would definitely be him.
I think it all depends on the thinking of the front office. If they are looking to sign somebody to play RT for a few years, Olivea or Williams. If they want somebody to play RT until a draft pick is ready, I'd say Woody.
I think Woody would be the best/safest pick. He can play multiple positions and appearently played well the five games he played at RT last season. The jets should still draft another lineman, hopefully with their second round pick.
I don't think Woody got benched - he had an injury and was in the process of returning to RG. The problem was their RT who Woody replaced. Jets wiil choose Woody because of his versatility.
Olivea is the one I want.I understand Woody can play G, RT, C and everything. We needa RT who has been consistently playing that position. I dont know if the Jets will do it though.I am guessing they will go with Woody because of his versatility and then still draft RT.If Woody can back up at three OL positions that is really good.
Damien Woody for now. He can be a starter and is great depth if we find someone else. The Age does not scare me as long as we keep draftign some young bucks for the line in the mid/later rounds.
gotta like Woody's versitility but I like Olivea's youth more. He would go well with our two young linemen
Olivea- the guy was a very good RT until this year. It'd be good for building more cohesion on the O-line since Brick knows him from back on the Island and Mangold played with him at tOSU. That can't hurt. Williams will be expensive and Woody was a mediocre guard last year and only had a small sampling at RT. Olivea fits on so many levels. I'd like to think this year was an aberration. Bring him home Woody
You get woody in here as a temporary patch, and then you draft a decent replacement for. Then keep woody on as a backup because his so versatile it gives us some OL depth.
