I see most are split when it comes to this topic. From what I saw, Clemens does have a better arm than CP. So I choose Clemens, we need to see what this guy is made of. We can't really judge him by the sorry line we had last year. He didn't even have time to breathe. Now that we have a better line, and if they proceed in making our OL better by upgrading the RG and RT, we can then be a better judge of this.
If your gonna do this thread, you should setup a poll. Im tired of writing the reason but the answer is Clemens. I have zero fear that there will really be a QB competition. Pennington and Willie will be reunited in KC.
CP is still way better imo. Now that we have a line Chad would be fine and we would be good, but not great. With KC we have more potential because he has the ability to bring us to that great level although likely he won't be much better than Chad if at all. I voted for Chad because he's my favorite player and I want to see him to great, but I really don't care too much who plays.
Chad Pennington is a good NFl quaterback... but he's not the guy whos gonna take you to the next level A guy who has a cannon like Clemens is what gets you to the next level. He does many things a guy like Chad can't. He can move, he can stretch the field, and wont kill your recievers What Chad has on him, is that Chad is a very accurate and a very smart QB. But i believe with seasoning, Kellen will improve his accuracy, his losy pocket presence, and field IQ
I think this will really be an open tryout as it should be. We might not know the starter until the end of the preseason. I prefer to try Clemens again, since he has more upside. Pennington's numbers weren't horrible last year, but he could not lead the team back from anything. I'd be willing to give him another chance, but only after Clemens fails (or succeeds).
He won't with this new line! Unless if he does get rushed he doesn't run or something. If you have a good line like the pats, packers, or colts, your QB doesn't get injured.
I say let them go at it in TC and preseason, see if Chad's play is improved when he has more time in the pocket, and a possible increased run game. When chad has time, he can pick apart the defense. He can throw the deep ball, but he cant throw hard. He can throw far but not hard, which is his biggest weakness. I say give Chad one more shot, no commitment or anything, and pull him if it doesn't work out, much earlier than last year. I think with an improved defense and offensive line, and possibly a playmaker on offense, people will be surprised at how successful Chad can be.
It wouldnt shock me if they went in that direction. Ideally, i'd like to see Clemens win the TC battle and start, and Chad renogtiate his contract and be the backup. the backup plays.
