You tend to see a lot of posts on this board staing guys close to 30 are to old. what about this guy? 10 years vet. Hes not to old?
He just turned 31, He has a good 4-5 seasons left... Maybe even longer, this guy can play till he's 37 maybe even 38... lol... no way is he 2 old
He is on the older side, but this is an exception. He is an all-pro player who can help two big parts to this team D'brick and Mangold. Plus offensive lineman tend to last longer than other players at different positions. Oh yeah he fills a huge need.
He's a little older but he's a top notch Offensive Linemen its not like he's a Wide Reciever or something he's still got 3 or 4 good solid seasons left.
lol u crack me up, I already cant wait for ur TC reports this year (Tell me how Harris is doing behind Jenkins)
Just because he made the pro bowl doesn't mean he deserved it, Faneca is fairly popular as far a guards go, so he gets a lot of fan votes. I'm not a big fan of this signing but at least the front office is trying to make the team better and is willing to spend money.
He is to old for what we are paying but we have no choice. If we're lucky two really solid years followed by two years of reasonably decent play.
Ok, I just looked it up... Kevin Mawae is 37 years old and still playing strong for the Tittans.... Faneca is only 31, this will be a GREAT signing
OLmen can play @ a high level well into their 3rdies. If he plays @ a probowl level for another 2 more years, then starts to tail off alittle thats fine b/c he`ll still be a productive guard (kendell level)for the remaining years.
I think that's the best case 2 top years and 2 productive years. If we are guaranteeing him around 20 million than 2 excellent years and 2 or 3 productive years should be okay.
That gives us a good 4 seasons to find a young stud for the LG position... In 4 years, Ferguson and Mangold will be Veteran players, Mangold will be 28 and Ferguson will also be 28 in 4 years, things are looking GREAT for the O-Line
He has no serious injury history and has always kept himself in very good shape. 31 for OG is not very old. He will play out the full length of his contract and produce all 4 years, with the first 2 at a very high level.
Ya know what im so excited. We are finally building the team the correct way! O-line. Now we need to sign Coles and ill be happy.
This is because wind and cardio-vascular fitness are not part of the job requirement. You're not asking for 40-yard dashes at high speed, down after down. Different kind of strength. What you need from them is to catch their breath between downs and use their weight to shove people all over hell on every snap. It's really not that hard, providing you're in pretty good shape and you weigh enough. They're practically never required to burn themselves out aerobically, which, ironically, is why many of them never live past 50 or so. But up until the age of 35, they're monsters at what they do.
