I love Fanny Quoting a source close to Pittsburgh Steelers guard Alan Faneca, the New York Daily News reported the New York Jets were a virtual lock to sign the All-Pro guard. The Jets were expected to present a monster contract offer to Faneca, an unrestricted free agent. The offer was said to be a four-year, $32 million package that includes $20 million in guarantees, too good for him to refuse. The San Francisco 49ers and St. Louis Rams also were believed to be in the hunt for Faneca, but the Jets were the clear front-runner. One person close to the situation described it as a virtual done deal. Faneca, 31, a seven-time Pro Bowl selection, could be in New York by Sunday to sign the deal. 3 Team Race it looks like I still feel the Jets have the upper hand. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3270118 Youthâ„¢
Trying to rate a single lineman is meaningless unless you get a fix on the entire OL he's a part of. We certainly should have learned this from our own OL experiences. The sum of the whole is greater than the individual parts, or else it is far less (as in the case of the 07 NYJ OL). Faneca is the real thing. Put him in a good scheme and he will make everyone around him (who isn't week or dogging it) prosper. Sign Faneca. Sign Faneca. No word on the Colts' Scott yet?
Alan Faneca isn't making any free agent visits until he's ready to sign a contract. The Jets have offered four years for $32 million with about $20 in guarantees. The Rams and 49ers are also reportedly making offers. Faneca's agent will present the deals to his client Saturday, and a decision will come by Sunday at the latest.
Well, if that's true, and the other reports are true that the only visit he has lined up is with the Jets on Sunday, you put 2 and 2 together and it looks like he might sign on Sunday at Jets HQ.
I don't like it. We basically set the base price and now the Rams and 49'ers have the option to match or exceed. Not holding my breath on this one, I feel like we've been down this road before.
Faneca is smart. He wants the news cycle to himself. He'll wait till tomorrow or maybe Sunday and then show up in New York to sign the deal. The 49ers have more problems than just their OLine not being solid. Their QB and Coach don't like one-another. The Rams are just injury riddled and not in any shape to make a serious run. The Jets have the key pieces in place and just need the strength of their lines to grow and then they become contenders.
which key pieces are this?? key pieces are usually a qb, a Lt, a game breaking wr, and a dominant pass rush(er), aside from LT and a healthy lav coles, we really dont know what we have with kellen, sure he could be good once the line shores up and we can run the ball more, but we dont really know until next season starts our secondary is good, 9th in pass defense, but imagine how much better they would be with a good pass rush, we have to get someone that can rush the passer, hopefully jenkins will take away double teams from sean ellis, but bryan thomas is not the answer, i think we have to get gholston
