    Free Agent Signings
Brad Hopkins OT, veteran stopgap that's badly needed at OT.
Andre Dyson, improves DB depth and challenges Barret and Miller

    Draft
    1. Mario Williams DE (4)
Don't let the position fool you, Williams is not John Abraham's replacement. A freak athlete, Williams could be to the Jets what Seymour is for the Pats.

    1A. Manny Lawson DE/OLB (29)
Just a freak athlete who will give the Jets a much need pass rusher from the OLB position.

    2. Nick Mangold C (35)
Big time center prospect to help replace Mawae

    3. Ryan O'Callaghan OT/OG (71)
Has experience at OT and OG. With Hopkins' age, will become the team's starting RT sooner rather than later.

    3A. Babatunde Oshinowo NT (97)
Considered the 3-4 NT that the Jets seem to be missing at this time.

    4. Elvis Dumervil DE/OLB (103)
Another speed rusher might seem excessive, but a bargain at this point in the draft. Also believe that the best 3-4 D's have 2 rushers at OLB (see Pats, Steelers, Chargers)

    4A. Jason Spitz G/C (117)
Has experience at guard and center, could be eventual replacement for Kendall or at worst a valuable reserve with great versatility.

    5. Marques Colston WR
Raw but great size at the WR position. Could be a real diamond in the rough.

    7A. Matt Bernstein FB
Powerful run blocker, admitedly a one dimensional player.

    7B. Michael Robinson ??
Honestly have no clue what to do with this pick. Don't know where Robinson's future lies, but a freak athlete who could potentially be a Randle-El type if he isn't so stubborn about staying at QB.

I'm sure there are some that can't believe there isn't a QB or RB on this list, but honestly they have nice depth at RB and a half decent O-Line will definately help get more out of what they have at the skill positions.

With Chad's contract I think he has to get another chance. My view on the QB situation is that one of two things will happen.
    1. Chad doesn't recover and the team wins 3-5 games, setting themselves up to be right in the thick of the Brady Quinn sweepstakes.
    2. Chad makes a recovery, the Jets are a solid team and don't need a QB a year from now.

Thanks for the comments, is there anyone in your opinion would qualify as wishful thinking (in terms of how far they fall)? Dumervill was one that stood out though that MSNBC article posted a couple days indicated he might fall out of day 1.

mangold proabally would be a reach at 35, although he is likely to be there at 29. Otherwise, your picks are good.

IMO, the Lawson and Mangold at 29/35 might be a little wishful thinking, but it's definitely possible. Oh, and it's a scenario that I would be very happy with. Also, seeing as how Oshinowo is one of the few NT in the draft, I could see him going before the 3rd round.

Great job deviljets. Does someone with a little more initiative want to put together what the final roster would look like after this draft?

Great mock but as said before me a few guys are dropping... Lawson, Mangold, and O'Callaghan are all flying up draft boards where I don't think Lawson gets past the Pats at 21, Mangold past the Saints at 34 (more likely to go at 28 [Jags] or 32 [Steelers]) and O'Callaghan somewhere in the mid 2nd round (probably a team that isn't able to fill a need at OT in the first).

I'll put one together. The defensive positions are basically based on where they'd be in a 3-4

    QB (3) Pennington, Ramsey, Bollinger
    RB (3) Martin, Houston, Blaylock
FB (2) Askew and Bernstein (hard to fathom a Bernstein on the Jets :))
WR (5) Coles, McCareins, Cotchery, Dwight, Colston
TE (4) Baker, Jolley, Dressen, Dearth
OL (9) Jones, Kendall, Mangold, Moore, Hopkins, O'Callaghan, Spitz, Cavka, Morley
DE (4) Ellis, Williams, Von Olhauffen, Thomas
DT (4) Robertson, Oshinowo, Pope, Pouha
LB (8) Barton, Vilma, Hobson, Lawson, Dumervil, Chatham,Wright, McClover
CB (4) Dyson, Barrett, Miller, Strait
S (4) Rhodes, Coleman, Maddox, Washington
    K (1) Nugent
    P (1) Graham
    ? (1) Robinson

This seems pretty accurate though if you count Robinson 27 of the 51 players are offensive so maybe a Cavka or Morley ends up losing their spot to a defensive player.

I wouldn't be surprised if Lawson, Mangold, and O'Callagahn go before where I have them, but I used the new mock on nfldraftcountdown as a bit of a guide (to make sure I don't have a 2nd round guy in the 4th etc.) and for what its worth they had Mangold falling to #35, Lawson at #37, and O'Callaghan at #71.

I don't think you slotted anyone in an unreasonable spot, DJ ... all of your projections can conceivably go in your projected slots ... nice job, my friend
