Told ya, jets are interested in Shaun Rogers, and Vilma.......he's outa here.... Updates From Indianapolis Saturday, February 23rd 2008, 11:30 pm by Gary Grund Matt Bitonti of DraftDaddy provides some great information from the combine on the Jets in their latest update. Bitonti notes that teams are lining up to trade for Lions defensive tackle Shaun Rogers. Jacksonville, Tennessee, Atlanta, Buffalo, and the Jets are all interested in him. The best offer the Lions have received so far for him is a 4th-round pick. Finally, the New York Jets? front office have denied the trade rumor of Laveranues Coles to Jacksonville. They are clearly shopping Jonathan Vilma, but his trade value has been low due to his troubled knee. This is the first we have heard of any interest involving the Jets and Shaun Rogers.
http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playerpages/player_main.aspx?sport=NFL&id=2775 Coach Rod Marinelli acknowledged at the NFL Combine that the Lions have interest in Jonathan Vilma. The Jets have given Vilma, 25, permission to seek a trade. "He's a heck of a player," Marinelli said. Vilma would likely work well as a middle linebacker in Marinell's Tampa 2 scheme.
Hrmm. These two reports don't make much sense when put next to each other now do they? Or are the Lions just holding out to try and get a better offer?
The Jets are going to move Vilma for anything that looks like value and then pray that he passes the physical on the other end. It's almost better that the degenerative micro-fractures thing happened because now it's out in the open and everybody can evaluate it objectively.
Rodgers is a punk who plays when he feels motivated...rightly or wrongly, not a Mangini type of player.
why do you guys think vilma is worth so much more than shaun rogers, hes worth a 3rd at best just like rogers, trade the two straight up
i'm with you same old, it makes sense to swap straight up considering the circumstances and needs of both teams.
You smoking crack? I LOVE vilma. He's by far my favorite Jet, but he isn't worth Rogers and a 4th let alone a 3rd. For our needs, Rogers is worth just a 3rd, or straight up with Vilma.
Does any DT in FA or the draft have the prospect or is as even remotely good as Rogers? I'm not a rocket scientist, but the position seems vital to having success in the 3-4 scheme.
Frank Okam. I'd rather have Okam and teach him how to play an NFL 3-4 than acquire Rogers and try to switch him to NT.
Note the amount of heavy interest in Z. Thomas that Rosenhaus claims came from a number of people at the NYJ. Note the denials of interest in Z. Thomas that Cimini unearthed from the Jets of the genuineness of this interest. One gets the impression that there's a lot of price checking going on in free agency this weekend in Indiana, huh...
Ahtyba Rubin. Size...check. Strength...check. Played 2 gap...check. LIKES to play 2 gap...check. Motor...check. Mean as fuck....check. From everything I've heard (and what I've seen of Okam)....Rubin >>>>>>>>>>> Okam.
Forgive me if I'm wrong, but doesn't Shaun Rogers play for that behemoth, over-achieving Detroit Lion defensive juggernaught...? ...What did you say the guy was worth? On every third play?
What round is he being projected to go in? I am really hoping this need is taken care of this offseason along with our other obvious weaknesses.
I am all for the rogers trade. He is the perfect size we need at NT and better than anyone we might be able to get in the draft. I think Vilma and a fourth rounder should be sufficient.
