Excellent points. You fix the point of failure in a defense, not the areas peripheral to it. The Jets points of failure over the first two 3-4 seasons have been in the line and then the linebackers. That's why the run defense has been poor and the pass defense has been put under continual pressure by lack of a pass rush. Even the downs when the Jets get a good rush it's because a DB is blitzing and the pass defense suffers.
What got Dyson into mangini's dog house this year? Cause i'm wondering if he has a chance at playing next season. He and Justin Miller could potentially make comebacks and find their way into starting position along with Poteat, Drew Coleman. Feel like jets have enough bodies at CB not to justify throwing a lot of cash at the position.
He was hurt. Injury is a character flaw under the Parcells/Belichik tree unless you are one of the 5 best players on the team.
If the sure interception of Eli in the game winning SB drive was any indication of his catching skills I do not want Asante on this team. Just move JMac to safety and we can accomplish the same thing right now with what we have.
Now I don't think we should sign Asante. However, that ball was too high and he only managed to touch it with his fingertips at the top of his jump. So in spite of his horrified theatrics it wasn't really catchable or his fault. I saw it several times and heard it discussed as such.
Haha one news article calls Samuel overrated and you believe it as fact? Come on. He's still a top 5-10 corner in this game and no one is knighting him as any more then that. Yes he may get the biggest contract in CB history and that could be a solid base to call him overrated, but in this recent trend in all sports where you need to get the biggest contract ever (A-Rod, Santana, Clement, Brady and Manning out-doing each other, et al) don't you think anyone near the top would demand best ever money. I would love Samuel. He would take a lot of pressure off of both Revis and Rhodes, especially Rhodes who we can free up in the box a little more and get creative. Remember it IS possible to get both a corner and help out the other units in the same offseason. Draft a defensive player at 6 (preferably Gholston or Ellis), sign Samuel, and then either look to trade up into the end of the first round and get another top defender or go BPA in the second. Use middle rounds and your still massive amounts of cap room in free agency for offensive lineman. Wow. 4 needs in one offseason. Why didn't anyone think of that before?
