This is my first Mock Draft and I understand many of you know way more than me when it comes to this stuff but I think all my moves make sense. Who knows what will happen but I would be happy if it went this way. Free Agency: Signings: Ryan Lilja- LG- He is a solid guard with good expierence and would work well with D-Brick next to him. Jordan Gross-RT- looking for a lot but worth it. He would fortify our O-line and give Kellen all the time he needs and add to our run game. Bernard Berrian- WR- We need a speedy playmaker downfield and he has played well with a shit QB. I think he has more potential than expected and would make our WR unit very dangerous. Corey Williams -DT- I wasn't sure about another Free Agent but we have enough money I think and he would be a nice addition to a line that needs many nice editions. Trade: Chad to Kansas City for third Third Round Pick. DRAFT: Round 1- Vernon Gholston-OHS-6-4 264, 4.75. He will crush QBs for years to come and can fall back into coverage. I think he will increase our pass rush by leaps and bounds and that is what we need. Round 2- Pat Simms-AUB- 6-4 314- 5.05- We will have him rotating with Corey Williams and hopefully learning some tricks of the trade along the way. Both of them have good size and can easily draw two blockers every time. (if gone then Dre Moore who also works well here) Round 3- John David Booty USC -6-3 215 4.95 I know people will go nuts about this but if you feel good about our Qb situation then you are fooling yourself. He would be nice to develop in case Kellen doesn't work out. He is a leader and very accurate. I am sure Mangini would be a big fan. (if he is off the board I like taking Erik Ainge who might be a big sleeper if coached correctly at the next level) Round 3- from KC Curtis Lofton OKL ILB 6-0 238 4.75 He is a tackling machine and would be a nice fit behind Vilma if Vilma returns healthy. Lofton and Harris could really be run stopping machines with a solid D-Line. Round 4- Terrel Thomas USC- CB 6-1 195 4.45 We need another CB and he has the size, speed and tackling ability to help us on that side. I also like his height which I think is a crucial aspect against Big Wrs in the red zone. Round 5 Marcus Dixon DE Hampton 6-4 295 5.15 He is a good size and is able to get to the quaterback. We need to eventually replace Ellis and I think he would work well there. Round 6- Jehuu Caulcrick- Mich St-FB- 6-0 260 4.70 We need a run blocking FB well here we go. His size alone should make wholes for our Rbs. I don't know too much about him but I like his size for what we will use him for. Depth Chart QB-Kellen Clemens, John David Booty, Tui RB- Jones, Wahington FB- Kowalewski, Caulcrick LT- D-brick, Oldenburg LG- Ryan Lilja,Montgomery C- Mangold, Smith RG- Moore, Bender, RT- Gross, Clement TE- Baker, Ryan, Dearth WR-Coles, Davis WR-Cotchery, Smith, WR-Berrian, Stuckey, Wright ROLB-Gholston, Hobson RE- Robertson,Coleman, Devito DT- Corey Williams, Pat Simms, Pouha LE- Ellis, Mosely, Dixon (Robertson) LOLB- Thomas, Bowens ILB- Harris, Barton ILB- Vilma, Lofton CB- Revis, Coleman CB-Poteat, Terrel Thomas, Miller FS- Elam, Coleman SS- Rhodes, Smith Well there it is. I have I can't wait to hear some feedback. I think all our needs were met and it isn't too unrealistic. Please tell me your thoughts. Atleast it gives you something to read during this awful waiting period before free agency.
Not a fan of Booty/Lofton. It looks like Chad isn't going anywhere, so that cancels Lofton, but I'll play along like it does happen. I'd much rather bring in a veteran than another young guy. If Clemens plays 11 games, and shows he doesn't have it, we're going to hand the reigns off to another young QB? Lofton seems too small to play ILB in the 3-4. Doesn't fit in the scheme. I think he'll be a good player somewhere else, but not here. Beau Bell is a better choice, and we'll see where he is projected after combine. Last I remember, I heard late 3rd, but I could be mistaken.
there is a lot of talk going on about moving d rob to end. is this something they are seriously considering or is this just a way of justifying keeping him around? I personally really like d rob he is not the kind of player you get rid of.
Lofton is about 5lbs less than Harris?? So you think he is undersized? Who knows about Chad too nothing is in stone.
A few things that I feel are very important to why this wouldn't work: 1. Corey Williams and Pat Sims are in no way NT. If we were to get them they would be great DE though. Those are two players I would love to have, but at the DE spot. So you still need to address NT. 2. I hate the Booty pick. He is a lesser Chad Pennington. And if we are going to get a QB, it would have to be either Ryan, Woodson, Brohm or Flacco. Anything after that would be worthless as they would be lesser prospects than Clemens was coming out. 3. You are spending a bit too much money in FA. Gross will get a huge contract and Lilja, Williams and Berrian will all get payed very well too, there is pretty much no way we can afford to sign all of them, even with our immense cap room 4. I like Lofton and Terrell Thomas, but they would both probably go a round earlier. Lofton mid/late round 2, Thomas round 3, so that is unrealistic.
So you basically just blew an ENTIRE draft on all defensive players, a QB that wouldn't start for at least 2-3 years and a FB whose name isn't Schmitt. I agree we need help on defense but where is the help on offense? We do need wideouts and Berrian won't be there for us.
i think if we had that size on the DE...corey and sims and ellis and coleman....drob will succeed at nose tackle....i just have that feeling...not really feelin this draft...first two picks are great but u really fell off here...we need a wr...maybe a OLINE...saftey maybe...we did get eric smith two years ago and we dont need a qb...tom brady had the problem in the super bowl, kellen had all season...getting no time to pass
